  • Vandroid #2

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: March 26, 2014

Crazy van-painter and designer Chuck Carducci might be dead at the hands of his creation but that creation - bearing his younger likeness - is on a mission, of sorts. Visiting Carducci's ex-wife, Crystal, the man-droid begins to lose power. He soon, though, finds that some of her old perfume contains the compound trioxidyne themide which is what he needs.

But, apparently, he also craves this chemical compound, as we soon find from a scene between his other creator, Taylor, and his criminal boss, Dick Daniels, funding the whole project. Daniels owns the only company producing the perfume with this compound which is apparently quite rare. So, Taylor figures, this is the fail-safe - the android will come seeking out the source of his need, right into their trap.

But Vandroid heads instead, at Crystal's suggestion, to the local mall where he locates a perfume counter and begins guzzling the stuff. Mall security shows up in shocking numbers, only to get quite literally destroyed by Vandroid who's gone into self-preservation mode. As he's trying to escape he encounters an old buddy of Chuck's, Keener, who helps him escape. He also learns what “trust” and “friendship” might mean in this new reality as Keener helps him out, no questions asked and risks his own well-being to do so.

Keener happens to be driving a delivery truck full of that perfume Vandroid craves and, soon, they're both at the strip club where Crystal works. This impresses her no end but the two men have a plan, to head to the border with Mexico to intercept a huge shipment of the chemical. The shipment, though, is being guarded by a rogue biker gang named The Might Oaks Gang, heavily-armed and crazed nature spiritualists. The two soon find themselves an arsenal through an old contact and are then off to intercept the shipment. Surrounded by a hoard, Vandroid is non-plussed and ready for more explosive action yet…

Goofy-ass 80's-style fun (I'm thinking more Golan-Globus than Cannon but, hey, anything was possible back then) Vandroid just continues on its warpath of entertaining violence yet again.
