  • Terminator Salvation: The Final Battle #5

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: April 02, 2014

As John Connor's forces finally gain the upper hand on Skynet and are close to victory the machines have employed the services of serial killer Thomas Parnell, brought from the past to this future battle. He's plugged into a great amount of control (and visceral feedback) of the machine army of killing droids, giving them a level of sadistic glee they had yet to express.

This new development dismays the human resistance but Connor's aware that the machines must have changed something. Regardless, though, he knows they must get through to the time gate and get Kyle Reese back in time at all costs.

Meanwhile, the wired Parnell discusses this new world with the turncoat human, Dr. Kogan. The machine consciousness joins the conversation. The two pick on the other's humanity, Kogan reluctant to turn all the machine control to Parnell as it could just burn him out; he, though, once she's left the room, expresses his suspicions of her humanity being fallible, making her perhaps unable to see this whole thing through…

Kogan heads off and sends the T-800 off to the past, to kill Sarah Connor, and after doing so is ready to send the other 3 backup units (those that retrieve Parnell). But the facility is breached so the machines force her to flee, certain that since Parnell is there already that their mission will/has already succeed(ed). The resistance enters and sends Kyle through, then grimly readying “phase two” of their plan, capturing another T-800…

The story's reaching a fever pitch seemingly here and we're only at installment #5 out of 12 total so I'm looking forward to how J. Michael Straczynski will keep this pace up. Pete Woods' artwork continues to be just darn impressive, even here with getting more gore featured as well.
