  • Mass Effect: Foundation #9

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: March 26, 2014

A story nicely fleshing out a character's history in the game Mass Effect 2 this issue explores Mordin Solus and his decision to release his xenophage against the Krogan.

His team lands on the Krogan homeworld of Tuchanka and secretly make their way to the best distribution spot that won't be suspected by the planet's natives. During this journey they encounter the ruins of the Krogan civilization, showing what it once was, what it had been capable of long ago. They also run into a fertility ceremony to Kalross as the Krogan are desperate to re-instate the breeding prospects of their race.

This gives Mordin an opportunity to come face to face with the results of Salarian influence on this warring tribe, realizing for the first time that perhaps it was their interference that made the Krogan into what they are. After managing to get his device setup and to barely escape the collapsing structure, Mordin is thoughtful and not nearly as certain of his beliefs as he once was…

Written by Mac Walters, lead writer on ME2 and 3, this story gives excellent depth to an already well-done storyline from the game world. Tony Parker's artwork is equally oustanding, lavishly scaled to the huge settings with its large, dramatic importance for this critical narrative component.
