  • Judge Dredd #18

    Released by: IDW Publishing, Inc.
    Released on: Apr. 09, 2014

Dredd's barely conscious, having survived his first battle on the prison planet of Titan, far from Earth and his beloved Meg-City One. But a criminal-stuck-inside-a-corrupt-Judge's-body named Pachoda has retooled that sagging, flabby body into one of muscular revenge and, as such, is Dredd's only hope. And he is her only hope as she wants to get back at Judge Harvies, get her body back and get revenge for shipping her off to Titan.

Guard droids aside, Pachoda is able to get Dredd to a medical facility and help stabilize his body after being exposed without protection to the toxic planetary air. Dredd, coming to, still isn't buying her story but they have even bigger issues to deal with soon enough when, miraculously, Judge Omar knocks on their door…

He's then able to get Dredd back up to speed on the resurrection of the Dark Judges who are destroying Meg-City One. Omar was able to get to Titan because of Judge Blank, a mysterious Judge that teleports material through a harrowing out-of-body experience. Knowing they have no other choice then Pachoda and Dredd encounter Judge Blank, with Dredd hoping that this resurrected Judge is actually his lost partner Anderson. But he doesn't get any response at that name and the Judge sends them back to the hellscape that Meg-City One has become.

The Council, flying above the city, drops the containment shield, sealing off everything and everyone still inside the compromised portion of the city. That now includes Dredd and Pachoda as well who, just shaking off their shock at what's happened to the city, are set upon by several of the Dark Judges. Harvies is there, too, having been assimilated into the super-large Judge but still conscious. Looks like Dredd's got a helluva fight on his hands now…

Duane Swierczynski continues his excellent run handling the story duties here, really ratcheting up the stakes for everyone involved. Nelson Daniel's artwork is up to the challenge as well, bringing new life to this old character and making the Dark Judges as creepy & awful as they deserve to be.
