  • Lady Rawhide #5

    Released by: Dynamite Entertainment
    Released on: Dec. 18, 2013

The final episode in this story pulls out all the stops as Lady Rawhide moves from myth to legend in Old Mexico.

She's busy fighting the corrupt governor De La Luna and gaining popularity. She's joined by the female rebel fighters known as the Sisters of the White Rose. Their leader, Adelina, is inspired by Lady Rawhide's selflessness and determination and so they join forces since the Sisters were focused more on retribution rather than just finding justice.

Together, here at the conclusion, they press their fight straight to the governor's spacious mansion grounds. Lady Rawhide is acrobatic and more agile, gaining entry more quickly and avoiding the frontal assault led by the Sisters. However, she still has to be saved by the marksmanship of Capitan Reyes, the sympathetic soldier who now sees De La Luna for what he truly is.

The governor, though, has more pressing troubles as he's being forced to reveal his escape route under the mansion to the villainous yanqui, Cole. It's his Regulators that are pressing the fight against Reyes' good troops, the Sisters and Lady Rawhide top-side, too. They have cruelty and numbers but, this day, the other side has Lady Rawhide, who leads a stampede to them and then proceeds to whoop up on them en masse.

Cole finds the governor's secret stash on the way out, claiming it for his own corrupt U.S. group. But De La Luna gets the drop on him, knocking Cole out and turning back to reclaim what he feels is his rightful spot of power. Yet it's Reyes that leads both he and Cole out in front of the freshly-victorious rebel forces. Before they can do much of anything, though, Cole disarms him, shoots Adelina, then demands his own terms. Lady Rawhide has had enough and calls her own horse in who tramples Cole to death. De La Luna seizes the opportunity to order Reyes to arrest and hang them all but Reyes does the right thing, telling the governor he'll having a hanging...his own!

A great throwback in both story (from Eric Trautmann) and visual style (courtesy of Milton Estevam) to older comics, Lady Rawhide is not short on entertainment. Dark, action-packed, with plenty going on to keep it all moving along nicely this series is an entertaining one worth picking up.
