  • Angel & Faith Season 10 #2

    Released by: Dark Horse Comics
    Released on: May 7, 2014

Angel has found Nadira as the leader of the local sorta-crazies in Magic Town - but she's not the same one he saw basically murdered not too long ago. She tells him much while explaining little, asking for his help in dealing with their problems. Angel's only concerned with getting at the evil pixie Corky so Nadira tells him to find “the glassblower” as the source of the matter.

Faith's story runs parallel with Angel's here as it unfolds, with her remember her emotional goodbye with Giles before leaving to join Deepscan, the security outfit that hires slayers in this new world. She's down at the firing range, getting used to such weapons, when she's given her first assignment, a rockabilly star that likes to use their security services.

Back to Angel's story and he's back at the demon Rory's pub, trying to find more info about Corky's location. He gets some info that he suspects is a trap and it turns out to be just that. Corky has his massive demon, Porky, there who proceeds to seriously knocking Angel around. But when Angel goes all vampire on him both bad guys get a chance to escape during the fight. Angel is interrupted here as well by ex-policeman for the area, Inspector Brandt.

These two go off for a pint, giving the constable time to explain both Corky's origin a bit and to try and get Angel to team up with him since, now, the vampire doesn't have anyone watching his back. Angel is reluctant to team up with just anyone even though he knows this guy is probably correct. Meanwhile, Faith is on her security assignment, backstage with the rockstar Billy Rage, and not enjoying the creepy debauchery. So when the father of the girl on Billy's lap bursts in waving a gun, threatening to kill him, she's all over it. Until he mentions that his daughter is underage and Billy is indifferent to that. When the daughter jumps on Faith who's pinned the dad he then has the opportunity to get his hands on Rage's throat. However, that just forces the rocker to turn into his true demon form. Now, Faith is quite pleased with the assignment…

It's an interesting bit to separate the two main characters, using a single series to track both of their own, independent stories. But it works very well here, with the back-and-forth narrative making it a very entertaining read. Victor Gischler is at top form here, successfully capturing the spirits of both characters while giving them their own proper stories. Will Conrad's artwork is quite good, too, getting a wide variety of scenes both big and small to show off on. And that lends itself well to the overall very high quality of this series. (And an awesome cover from Scott Fischer as well!)
