  • Rogue Trooper #4

    Released by: IDW Publishing
    Released on: May 21, 2014

Having just saved Strongpoint Charlie and its small group of inhabitants from what should have been an overwhelming Nort attack the Rogue Trooper is now confronted by the Souther military police team who wound him to stop him so they can take him back with them.

[DON'T WORRY, ROGUE - SPOILERS ARE AHEAD!]

After they shoot him it's the regular soldiers that attack the military police in outrage. Rogue's implanted system's take over and his pack makes a cover of thick smoke. Rogue takes advantage of this to recover his gear and escape.

The Norts are still hurting from their rebuff, though, and want vengeance and via their gundogs continue looking for Rogue and the other Southers. Rogue's escape is aided by the life-saving chemicals pumping through him, his gear debating this all while he's pretty much unconscious. But he comes to, gets on his feet and marches forward, safe if just for the moment.

The MP's are hot on his trail, though, and head out into the wasteland after him. But they soon come across a Nort gundog that appears to be harmless but decide to take it out, just in case. Doing so, though, only alerts the Norts of their presence and the gundog is soon bringing all its considerable firepower to bear on all of them. Two of the MPs are quickly dispatched before Rogue, seeing all this transpire, is able to intervene and save them. While he's trying to escape after doing so, though, the lead MP wounds him again.

Rogue manages to crawl off but doesn't get far before the MP finds him, wanting to finish the job since he feels all of this is Rogue's fault anyway. But Rogue is very reluctant to harm a fellow Souther soldier and, thankfully, he doesn't have to as Breaker, one of the Strongpoint Charlie squad, blasts the MP away. He then leaves Rogue, thinking them even now. Rogue gets in touch with the mysterious Angel again and finds that he now needs to head to find another team, this one in the absolute worst spot on Nu-Earth, a place called Abada…

Brian Ruckley continues this pretty fantastic reboot of the classic series by providing a solid level of character study and depth to the main hero's quest. Alberto Ponticelli's artwork is also incredibly solid and very dynamic with the both big and small action scenes taking place across the barren landscape.
