  • The Crow: Pestilence #4

    Released By: IDW Publishing
    Release Date: June 11, 2014.

    The Story:

With more of a whimper than a bang, the latest chapter of The Crow bites the dust. It's been a bit of a ride over these last 4 issues, with a remarkable swing in quality from awesome to ridiculous, and the final stab doesn't fail in maintaining that swing.

Hot on the heels of the vigilante tracking down and killing the dogs of the Saint Death Cult, Salvador's brother comes across the wounded crow that has been guarding Salvador's soul. When he is bitten by the crow, all becomes clear, and he vows that he will help his brother eliminate the last of the criminals who killed Salvador's wife and son.

The crow leads him to a juke-joint in Southern Indiana, where a captured Salvador awaits his fate at the hands of the SDC with no bird nearby to protect him. Just when it seems all is lost, Salvador is freed by his wife, who apparently never died; the murders that Salvador witnessed were ANOTHER wife and child who had crossed the SDC. Reunited with his wife and child, and then his brother, Salvador takes out years of anger and frustration, and new anger and frustration, since his wife was forced to sleep with members of the SDC and take her child to the market with them....seriously, a trip to the market can be a terrible thing when your son calls another man Daddy....anyway, he takes out his anger and frustration by wreaking havoc on his SDC captors. At some point, Saint Death makes another appearance, something about a debt owed, and Salvador feels the torment of having subjected his wife to such horrors.

It's quite difficult to write a review of this issue of Pestilence. Like most of the content before it, it's severely lacking in any kind of depth, symbolism, whatever...anything of note. Drew Moss' artwork is fairly consistent with the other issues, but one is forced to contemplate what writer Frank Bill thought that he was bringing to the table to add to the mythos of the Crow in this storyline. The original books were a work of originality and obviously rooted in tragic personal experience that have lasted all of these years for a reason....with any luck, this mediocre retelling will fade into obscurity quickly.

    The Final Word:

If you haven't checked out any of The Crow: Pestilence series yet, save yourself the time. If you were let down by the last couple of issues, this one isn't going to help. If you think the series is fantastic, you'll probably love this one.

Yeah, i don't know if you've read any of these, but they definitely add nothing to it. It's a shoddily-done retelling that basically moves the location, puts in stupid bad guys and a lame attempt at the occult, attempts a few twists that are poorly executed, and fucks up the ending royally. I don't know how the hell they pitched that one.

      Haha...

No I sat through the lame MOVIE sequels...but at least they KIND OF tried to retain SOME of the mythos......

These comics just look bad...and your reviews just put the final nail in the coffin!!
