The resurrection of Natalia Kassle wraps up its four issue-run - but where will her allegiances take her this time around?

    [SPOILERS!]

This finale finally puts all the key players into the same space as Natalia and her new friends race Abbey Chase to the weaponized gas canisters in the African jungle. There an old ally of Natalia's - Anastasia Kilbourne - is overseeing the sale of the gas to an unknown party. Abbey arrives first and easily dispatches Kilbourne's mercenaries. But Kilbourne and the gas canisters are on a nearby train, making a getaway. Abbey plunges headlong after it, her only “plan” being to destroy those canisters.

Meanwhile, Natalia is getting briefed by April and the others on this mission. The gas canisters, it turns out, were found by April's team right near where they originally found Natalia mostly dead. The canisters were bound for the evil Hammer organization's island - but Abbey managed to destroy the entire island. April's team had to retreat but, clearly, someone there was able to salvage the canisters and arrange a new sale for them. April also tells Natalia that their intel has it that the buyer plans to use this weapon against Natalia's home country, too. But she assures Natalia that their mission is one of destruction, not salvage this time.

On the train, Abbey has caught up to it and planted explosives on the gas canisters, enough to destroy the train as well. But she's interrupted from pressing the detonator by Kilbourne. The two fight, with Kilbourne knocking Abbey out then binding her and leaving her there on the train car floor. Kilbourne figures the Danger Girls are on their way so she puts everyone on alert. But next it's Natalia and April's team that arrives.

April fires a warning shot, explaining to her cohort her plan to make Natalia face all Kilbourne's guards while they make off with the gas canisters themselves rather than destroying them. They figure if Natalia doesn't die then they'll at least have a great head start on her. Not everyone's sure that'll work - double-crossing a killing machine and all that - but when they find the unconscious form of Abbey they bet they have a solid distraction for Natalia that'll make their plan work out.

On top of the train, Natalia is kicking all sorts of ass, eventually coming face to face with Kilbourne whom she of course doesn't remember. But Kilbourne is amazed to see her old partner alive and tries convincing her that they're on the same side here. Natalia is unconvinced, though, and knocks Kilbourne out and off the train, snagging Abbey's detonator in the process. It's then that April and her team approach her, aiming their weapons her way and demanding that detonator.

Natalia is understandably upset by this turn of events and so she triggers the detonator just as the train hits a bridge high above a river. April and her team are all hanging on by a thread on the soon-to-collapse train but they're not in as bad a shape as Natalia, who's literally left dangling. But her desire for revenge is very strong so she's ready to fight. That is, until April tells her about Abbey Chase, who she is to Natalia, and that she now has a choice: Save Abbey to get revenge on her principal nemesis or kill April and her team. There's not enough time for both, though, and Natalia makes the choice to go after Abbey, surprising April but pleasing them as she goes down with the burning train wreckage, plunging into the river below.

The other Danger Girls finally arrive on scene, after April and hers have departed. They locate Abbey, safely deposited onto the riverbank. She doesn't remember much except that she was rescued by “some woman” who must be a lot tougher than her. Later, at the destroyed remains of Hammer Island, a shadowed figure arrives, managing to reboot the systems back online and thus is able to inquire after the location of all Hammer Empire criminal associates. The computer system demands voice-recognition for that info and Natalia Kassle reveals herself at that point, gaining immediate full access. But what is her plan now and what will she do?

Andy Hartnell's reboot of the primary DG nemesis has been pretty fun and he leaves Natalia's story at a great spot for many more. John Royle's artwork is also pretty stellar, very much in line with all the other DG issues but also having a crispness, a freshness to it that is all his own. That serves the new story for an old character quite well here. This is definitely one worth picking up, either now or when the trade is released.
