Let's just say this right up front: the covers Jay Anacleto's been painting for this series are absolutely amazing and are the highlight of the entire five-issue run. Well, maybe next issue will have a story that trumps his work, but that hasn't happened so far. Man, does that guy do Vampirella serious justice and his background stuff is top shelf.

The first story in this issue, “Vampire's New Clothes” is written by Stuart Moore and drawn by Chad Shepherd, and it puts the lovely lady in the role of a queen. She's gotten word that there are some demons in the area and the only way she'll be able to single them out is to wear a piece of clothing that will upset the demons, rousting them from the masterful disguises. The tailors who gave her the clothes are not simply tailors, but instead scheming demons, but their plan backfires when a crowd of leather-clad vampires show up. And then the Royal Grand Grand Poofy Unicorn Parade is in full swing, resulting in what would appear o be the only Medieval vampire gay pride parade ever captured in comics.

Eric Trautman provides the second story, drawn by Mirka Andolfo, titled “Hard by a Great Forest”. Finding herself thrust into another story, Vampi is running through the woods, feeling hunted and very hungry. She finds a trail of glowing stones that lead her to the house of the witch from the story of Hansel and Gretel and once she gets to the candy house she learns what really happened to the siblings. Their dad is around too, looking to feed his hungry children. He's cursed, as are they, and the foxy vampire from another planet helps them out in her own special way.

The voice that talks to Vampirella in between stories is going to reveal herself next issue and tell Vamp how to get back to her home planet…supposedly. Maybe it's this mysterious blonde woman all her stories are tied to; all the characters think it's Vampi, just with her hair dyed. Then again maybe that's just been a ruse this whole time. At any rate, Nancy Collins and Jack Jadson continue to be the constant in this series, creating the transitions in between stories and providing the plot line. Filled with humor and corny one-liners, like the old horror comics with horror hosts, the transitions are always chaos for the buxom protagonist and Jadson always throws in some great visuals. This is a fun series, not to be taken seriously, but intended to entertain and it certainly does.
