The two near-equally matched foes-turned-allies meet once again sometime after the events in issue #1, and this time on Belit's pirate boat. If you don't know, Belit “Queen of the Black Coast”was an old flame of Conan's until her death, and he spent some time as a pirate with her. Red Sonja and her co-fighter (and lover?) Dark Annisia stowaway on a ship the pirates are about to seize, thinking the pirate ship to be a slave ship. She and Annisia look to stop that slave ship from taking the passengers on the targeted ship and put up a hell of a fight to stop the would-be, and mistakenly identified, slavers.

Before any of the four main players can actually do any damage to one another (Red Sonja vs. Belit, and Conan vs. Annisia) Conan and Red recognize each other and become a source of seeming jealousy for both of their lady friends. After the fighting stops it's time for some re-bonding and some food, nd things seem pretty cool. That is until a late-night visit from one of Belit's crew alerts them to something most foul on an island they've come across. It involves longtime enemy Thoth-Amon and a pesky little plant known as blood root: a nasty plant that infects everything that lives and decimates whatever comes in contact with it.

Continuing on the same path as the first chapter, issue number two reunites the two warriors to deal with what they should have dealt with better some years before. They had access to the blood root seed, but not being thinkers of overly evil deeds and having absolutely no idea what they had in their possession, they just kind of ignored it. Now it's back to bite them and that would seem to be where the second half of the series will focus.

The writing team produces some fun dialogue between the four “good” characters once they stop beating each other with swords and lends itself to the most enjoyable part of the chapter. The sexual tension between the Cimmerian and the Hykanian is as ripe as it always is and Simone and Zub capture it well. Panosian's pencils and inks really do take a back seat to the writing, although that's not meant to be taken in a negative way. His art always feels rushed to this reader, but he draws Conan and Red Sonja the way they should be drawn and Red in that skimpy little chainmail bikini ALWAYS makes for happy times on the visual side.

Even if you skipped issue one, you can pick this one up and not be lost at all, so don't pass it up if that's your reason. This is great solid sword and sandal type comic entertainment and even passive fans of the genre or characters should give it go.
