    The Movie:

Champagne For Breakfast begins at an office where a woman named Champagne (Leslie Bovee), Vice President In Charge Of Advertising, shows off her latest advertising project to much acclaim for both her boss and her co-workers. After that demonstration goes off without a hitch, her boss' daughter, Peggy (Bonnie Holiday), decides to show Champagne how she can use her feminine talents to get ahead in a male-dominated industry. She does this by seducing a salesman (Ken Scudder) - but doesn't stop her pep talk even while getting railed from behind bent over a table! Once things get too hot and heavy though, Champagne lets herself out.

Alas, our heroine has become such a workaholic these days that her personal life has gone straight to Hell. She's lonely. She needs love. She needs… a vacation. So her first act as the newly appointed VP is to do just that, but she's going to need some help. Enter Harry (John Leslie), a boxer recently cheated out of the printing business by his former partner and brother-in-law, Stanley (Paul Thomas). Broke, Harry heads to a placement agency run by Gladys (Kay Parker) where he shows her what he's capable off. After that encounter, she tells him about the opening that Champagne has asked her to fill - apparently it pays quite well, but Champagne is picky about who she wants to work for her: she's requested a gay man for the job.

Harry's up for the task, however. He decides to 'play gay' to get the job and before you know it he's working hard as Champagne's bodyguard/chauffer/assistant. The more he gets to know his new boss, the more he starts to want her (particularly once she starts asking for massages) but he can't give up the act for fear of losing his job. When he saves her from a would-be Romeo (Michael Morrison) who gets fresher with her than she'd like, Champagne decides to test drive a few different men in order to choose one to reward him with…

Featuring supporting roles from Candida Royale, Kandi Barbour, the lovely Dorothy LeMay, Sharon Kane, Jon Martin and John Seeman alongside the aforementioned leads, this is a well cast film with a good script and a genuinely engaging storyline. The film doesn't lack humor, most of which stems from Leslie's very heterosexual Harry trying his damndest to keep up gay appearances, and that humor keeps us interested and entertained even when the good looking men and woman in the cast aren't fucking and sucking in front of the camera. The movie is well shot, the sex scenes are occasionally elegant and frequently quite creative, and we even get a chance to see Leslie go into 'action guy' mode when he saves the stunningly beautiful Bovee from the amorous advances of horny Michael Morrison. After the scrap she asks him if he's okay, he complains that he 'just broke a nail.'

Production values are also slick here, and the movie features some nice sets including a bedroom with some great zebra print décor, a nightclub stage setup in the back of a bar, a bedroom with some sort of black fuzzy comforter thing draped over the bed (upon which the film's lesbian scene takes place) and some swanky office buildings too. Throw in a nice score and just a really fun atmosphere and this one turns out to be a really fun watch - slickly made porno with a plot that'll tighten your pants and maybe make you laugh a bit too.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Champagne For Breakfast arrives on DVD in a new 2k scan that has been restored from the original 35mm negative and it looks great. The image is consistently crisp, clean, nicely detailed and very colorful. There are no obvious compression artifacts nor are there any problems with noise reduction. Fans of the film should be quite pleased with how nice this presentation is, the colors in particular really shine quite nicely here.

Audio chores are handled easily enough by the English language Dolby Digital Mono track on the disc. There are no alternate language options or subtitles provided. Clarity and balance are strong throughout and there are no problems with any hiss or distortion. The opening theme song ('Champagne… so bubbly, champagne, so lovely… sparkling like pearls in the seaaaaa') sounds quite nice here too.

Extras include a hard trailer, a soft trailer and roughly six minutes of alternate scenes from the soft cut of the film that are interesting enough that you'll want to give them a watch. Static menus and chapter selection are also included.

    The Final Word:

Vinegar Syndrome's DVD release Champagne For Breakfast is a good one, offering up this really enjoyable and well made adult feature in fantastic shape with a few minor, but enjoyable, extras along for the ride.

      Tormented – Movie Review:

The late Bert I. Gordon’s 1963 horror film, ‘Tormented,’ is an effectively spooky ghost story made with an obviously low budget but no less effective for it.
