Having finished her work for the Kabal, Vampi returns to her new home in Kauzstadt ready to resume her new role as queen of the Nosferatu. Before making her way to the castle she made a stop at the home of Count Savanovic, a Nosferatu keeping humans against their will at a blood farm used to feed his followers. Vampi doesn't like that and makes a new enemy when she forces him to cease and desist. Her man servant says so, her werewolf man-toy says so, and even the son of Drago the Nosferatu says so. You remember him; the purple vampire she usurped a number of issues ago.

His son, Prince Iago, is half-human and half-vampire and since Vampi and Drago were siblings, that makes him the tall red one's nephew. He says he supports her, and with her vampire subjects already looking to take her out she'll need all the support she can get. He takes the time to tell her his story and he paints Drago in a light not ever considered by Vampirella, and she thinks a bit differently of Drago after hearing a story of his compassion and his ability to love. Too bad she didn't know that before she killed him, or she may have treated him differently. If only he was still alive…

Collins continues her working to write the best Vampirella material in quite some time, and this new arc's beginning (it seems like a new arc anyway) is setting things up for a major conflict between the new queen and the Nosferatu she's already pissed off (plan on more piling on to the “kill Vampirella” bandwagon). Vampi may be over her head with this new job as a ruling entity and Collins manages to successfully convey her frustration and self-doubt. Vampirella does have her allies though, the Kabal being one (so far), plus the aforementioned men at her side. And there's a familiar old face that shows itself to her, much to her surprise, and may end up being another one of those much needed allies.
The artwork doesn't falter in its continuous level of excellence, with Berkenkotter proving issue after issue how perfect he is for showing Vampirella exactly how she should be: smart, tough, and gorgeously curvy. And the way he draws the Nosferatu, you can almost smell the death and nastiness that no doubt seeps from their pores. Man, they must stink. And don't forget the Mike Mayhew cover, which is another classic looking painting that should make fans of the old Warren comics happy.

Gone for now are the sexy witch Evily, Vampi's doppelganger and sister Draculina, and the three Accursed that lived in the previous five issues. No doubt we'll see at some of those characters return, but for now its Nosferatu time and what a time it looks to be. This should be yet again an interesting and engaging story.
