  • Valley of the Cycle Sluts

    Released by: MVD Visual
    Released on: May 19th, 2015
    Director: Henry Vernon
Cast: Jason Williams, Michael Wayne, Suzanne Tara
    Year: 1994
    Purchase From Amazon

    The Movie

Valley of the Cycle Sluts is a lame and generic re-titling of this equally lame and generic slice of exploitation dreck from 1994, which originally hit late night T.V. under the title of Death Riders

Flesh Gordon alum Jason Williams hit rock bottom as he starred, produced and co-wrote this tale of an obsessed former cop Wade Olson who is captured by the ex-girlfriends of some hoods he put away in prison. This girl biker gang go by the name of "The Sisters of Mercy," and are out to torture Williams via strip tease (of course), reasoning that the first Cycle Slut to arouse their victim will be given the honors of first blood.

If that sounds like a poorly written excuse to showcase some gratuitous nudity sequences, backed by a terrible Skinemax muzak track then you'd be absolutely right. What's worse is that most of Death Riders is told via flashback, and this is where director Gregory Vernon Jeffery (working under a female pseudonym) inserts footage from other "Wade Olson" films-yeah, there were a couple of prequels made to this garbage, starting in 1987 with The Danger Zone-all which, it must be said, do at least look a bit better than the glorified loop carrier which is Valley of the Cycle Sluts.

Jason Williams is trying a lot more in these older Wade Olson films than he is here, years later, as a victim of the Cycle Sluts, where the actor is simply going through the motions as a burned out ex-cop on the edge. Elsewhere, the Cycle Sluts themselves are there primarily to get naked and snarl at Williams, while clip after clip tell the story of what happened to each of their boyfriends. Meanwhile, there's an obnoxious pervert with binoculars who is spying in on the whole affair, offering groaning one-liners and commentary along the way.

    Video/Audio/Extras

MVD Visual's DVD of Valley of the Cycle Sluts is presented full frame, likely from a VHS tape, with all of the expected fuzziness and lack of detail. It's serviceable, but not going to win any awards. Audio is of similar quality, hissy and dry, but certainly audible enough to hear what's going in, particularly the instances when dubbed dialog is present. There are zero extras, not even a photo gallery. Just the film and chapter stops.

    The Final Word

Valley of the Cycle Sluts is NOT a fun time, not even as some sort of retro fallout from USA Up All Night, and frankly bears little relevance to anyone other than those curious to see what used to air on cable before the National Anthem put everyone to bed.

I kinda enjoyed the first DANGER ZONE. It's one of those movies that if you have the VHS tape in your hand and think to yourself "this looks interesting", then you should walk away pleasantly surprised. On the other-hand, if the VHS cover makes you think "this is garbage" than actually viewing the tape won't change your mind. I don't care for Jason Williams, but he does a capable job and the movie delivers all of the cheap action and exploitation beats you'd expect. I didn't care much for DANGER ZONE 2 and haven't subjected myself to part 3 or the DEATH RIDERS compilation. I hate myself just enough that I might pick up this "Valley of the Cycle Sluts" DVD.
