    The Movie:

Vinegar Syndrome offers up a double dose of vintage Carlos Tobalina films movies in this recent entry in their Peekarama line of classic smut!

The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova:

The first feature introduces us to Giacomo Casanova (John Holmes), the world's greatest lover and the champion stud of period France. Jealous of Casanova's many conquests, Colonel Zatzki (Will Verdi) challenges him to a duel with the lovely Lady Angie (Jane Goodman) the prize awarded to the winner. Casanova wins, of course, and he gets what he wants...

From there, we jump ahead two centuries where Giacomo Casanova's descendent, John (Holmes again), who winds up getting a hold of a box of Giacomo's original letters and a bottle of his special cologne. Of course, once John dabs a bit of that cologne on himself, the ladies are powerful to resist him and so he goes about banging lots of them - starting with a hotel maid (Iris Medina). Shortly after, he meets up with his friend Paul (Peter Johns) and his wife Jane (Tracy O'Neil) and after using a bit of that cologne, John winds up giving Jane roughly thirteen inches of semi-erect love.

While this is going on, the handyman and the maid, Bill (John Seeman) and Rose (Suzanne French) work Paul over while Paul's kids, Mary (Phaedra Grant) and George (Blair Harris) break a serious taboo together while his other daughter, Ann (Maureen Spring), takes on George and then John himself. Is there anyone else left for John to fuck and if so, will he do it? What sort of effect will this have on him?

The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova 2:

Picking up pretty much where the first movie left off, we head back to period France where Giacomo has run afoul of three of Zatzki's friends. They again challenge him to a duel and he again comes out the winner, but he doesn't kill the third gunman who turns out not to be a man at all but a foxy, horny lady (Cathy Linger). She's injured and doesn't have much time left but he and his friend, Myra (Bridgette Felina), are going to show her a good time regardless.

Evidently this does the trick. The woman doesn't die but turns out to be healthy enough to pop out a kid, Don Juan (Bjorn Beck), who under the watchful eye of Count de la Riva (Carlos Tobalina), learns the art of swordsmanship. The Count de Leon (Rick Ardon) wants Juan to impregnate his wife, Isabella (Jesie St. James), on his behalf and he obliges, but on the way stops to take care of two ladies in need (one of whom is Ronda Jo Petty). Sometime later, we head back to the United States where we meet another descendent, John (Holmes again), who sees a shrink, Dr. Sharpe (Susan Silver). She learns of a certain cologne and encourages him to develop it and bring it to market. He does, and it's a huge success.

Those looking for literal or serious takes on the story of Casanova need not apply but these are entertaining enough even if the sequel recycles a ridiculous amount of footage from the first one. Holmes is in fine form here and seems to be enjoying himself while the female cast members are all quite appealing as well. The movies are reasonably well shot, at least by Tobalina standards, and the pacing is as erratic and nonsensical as you'd expect if you're familiar with his work.

These are fun. They're not great, they're not super serious nor are they all that glossy or well made but they're fun.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Both features look great in 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transferred in 2k from their respective 35mm negatives. The elements used were in excellent condition and while there is a scratch or two here and there, for the most part the transfers are as clean and as colorful as you could hope for. Expect some grain, but you'd be silly not to and it's never particularly distracting. These are solid transfers through and through, no serious print damage to complain about, sharp detail, very film like but still crisp and clean. Expect some grain, but you'd be silly not to. At this point in time anyone who has been following these releases knows to expect excellent quality - this release continues that trend.

Both movies get the Dolby Digital Mono treatment, in English with no alternate language options or subtitles provided. Both films sound fine. Dialogue remains clear and crisp and the scores sound good. Levels are properly balanced for both features though some might note some minor hiss in a few spots.

The only extras on the disc are static menus and chapter selection.

    The Final Word:

Vinegar Syndrome's DVD release of Peekarama: The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova/ The New Erotic Adventures Of Casanova 2 does the films justice with its presentation. The movies themselves? Tobalina-riffic! If you're not a fan of the director's 'style' these won't win you over but fans of his ludicrous directorial efforts will get a kick out of this.
