    The Movies:

Vinegar Syndrome offers up a double dose of vintage Scott McHaley films movies in this recent entry in their Peekarama line of classic smut!

    Fast Cars, Fast Women:

The first feature introduces us to Kristy (Sylvia Benedict), a foxy number who is interested in getting into the fast paced world of competitive race car driving. She joins up with her old roommate, Casey (Carolyn Jackson), and lands a gig with the Davis Racing Team. There's plenty of drama afoot, however, because the pit boss of the local track, Doug (Rocky Balboa), truly believes that his sister was killed by rival team owner Orson (Al Chiurrizz). Sure it might have looked like an accident, but Doug knows better, he figures Orson's right hand man, Dutch (Ron Jeremy), played a part in it too.

Thankfully the Davis team's owner, Molly Davis (Kay Parker), is able to convince Doug to chill out a bit while Kristy and Casey get reunited and enjoy some quality naked time alone. Orson makes an offer to Molly to buy her team but she's not interested in that. She is, however, interested in masturbating. So we gawk at her for a bit while she does that but when Doug takes a shit-kicking from Orson's goons, Kristy realizes that maybe Doug's theory isn't so crazy after all, in fact maybe his sister's death is only the tip of the iceberg. But when Orson sees how good Kristy is behind the wheel, he decides he wants her on his team and he'll do whatever it takes to make that happen… whether she likes it or not.

While it's always nice to see Kay Parker in a decent role, this one is a little on the bland side. The movie picks up when people are screwing, but the story is kind of bland. McHaley gets points for at least trying to pull us in with some double crosses and back-stabbings but it's not quite enough. The racing scenes don't match the rest of the movie and look like stock footage inserts, while the score and the cinematography are perfectly competent, if uninspired. It's watchable enough, but not particularly memorable. Next!

    Starship Eros:

If you've ever wanted to see C3P0 get it on with some chicks and really enjoy terrible effects work done with what look to be Battlestar Galactia toys, then Starship Eros is the movie for you!

Set in the distant future of 1995, the movie tells the tale of Commander Venus (Lori Rodgers), a curvy cutie with a penchant for self pleasure in charge of The Feminist Regime. She's enjoying some quality time with her right hand when a messenger (Mike Ranger) arrives to tell her she's needed or duty. She bones him in a wicker chair, the kind you see in Emmanuelle movies, and then heads off to work.

Work is spaceship, by the way - a spaceship she pilots with help from officer Christine Moon (Becky Savage), communications officer Bev (Holly Joy) and robot Quasar (according to the credits he plays himself!). As they head into deep space, Quasar, the aforementioned C3P0 sex robot, screws around with the ladies who also screw around with one another. They've got Star Trek style uniforms and any time the camera leaves the interior of the ship we see AWESOME miniature work (that's where those Battlestar Galactica toys mentioned earlier come in). It turns out that the Starship Eros has been sent out into space to deal with the Amazoids, and they do just that and wind up capturing one of the aliens (Tara Flynn), who of course they proceed to have sex with. Also… sexy laser guns!

This movie is ridiculous but you can't help but love it. Quasar (who was very likely Mike Ranger again) is hilarious to look at and the site of C3P0 getting it on with a bevy of space beauties is one that you won't likely forget. The miniature effects, as bad as they are, do at least show some inspired creativity and there are a few neat laser effects here too. The costumes are obviously Star Trek knock offs and the score if weird. The whole thing is weird, really, and there's not much of a story here. Most of what we see is sex, but then, those miniatures… this is a movie that will conflict you and confound you but it's impossible to resist its stupid charms!

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Both features look great in 1.78.1 anamorphic widescreen transferred in 2k from their respective 35mm negatives. The elements used were in excellent condition and while there is a scratch or two here and there, for the most part the transfers are as clean and as colorful as you could hope for. Expect some grain, but you'd be silly not to and it's never particularly distracting. These are solid transfers through and through, no serious print damage to complain about, sharp detail, very film like but still crisp and clean. Expect some grain, but you'd be silly not to. At this point in time anyone who has been following these releases knows to expect excellent quality - this release continues that trend.

Both movies get the Dolby Digital Mono treatment, in English with no alternate language options or subtitles provided. Both films sound fine. Dialogue remains clear and crisp and the scores sound good. Levels are properly balanced for both features though some might note some minor hiss in a few spots.

Fast Cars, Fast Women gets just short of seventeen minutes' worth of softcore alternate footage as its primary extra, though a theatrical trailer is included for the feature as well. As for Starship Eros, we get a two minute intro to the movie from producer Wesley Emerson in which he gives us a quick rundown of how this turkey came to be and how the 'effects' scenes were shot in his own garage! We also static menus and chapter selection.

    The Final Word:

Vinegar Syndrome's DVD release of Peekarama: Fast Cars, Fast Women/Starship Eros is worth getting for the second feature alone (consider Fast Cars a mediocre free bonus!). It's just flat out ridiculous and all the better for it. Both movies look and sound great and we get a couple of minor extras here too.

Both films are great. I own an Essex VHS tape of Fast Cars, Fast Women and needed an upgrade. The shower scene with Carolyn Jackson and Kay Parker is one of favorites.
