The Movie:
Umbrella Entertainment's Drive-In Delirium series gets a high definition facelift with the release of Maximum '60s And '70s Savagery, a massive three hundred and sixty seven minutes of trailers from the titular decades, focusing on cult, horror and exploitation titles. The Hammer Films trailers are highlights in this first batch, some great stuff here, but you've got to love seeing Harryhausen represented a few times and spending some time with a couple of weird sixties counter culture classics towards the end. It's also worth mentioning just how awesome and completely bizarre the trailer for The Mask is - it's one of those trailers that some of us just find endlessly rewatcahble for some reason! Throw in some Italian gothic horror, a Japanese import, some Vincent Price action, a few campy Euro-spy pictures and even some quality Lee Van Cleef footage and the sixties contingent of this disc scores high marks all around.

Again, we get a few solid Hammer Films trailers here but as the seventies was a more diverse decade for film it stands to reason that the selection representing the decade would be quirky and eclectic. As such, we get some blaxpliotation trailers, some traditional horror films as well as some stranger and more subversive entries (we're looking at you, Mr. Cronenberg) along with some nature run amuck pictures, some slashers, vampire films, zombie films, art horror, plenty of European imports and yet more Vincent Price. As we move through the horror pictures into more drive-in centric fare we're treated to some Russ Meyer, some Roger Corman and even some fancier sexploitation auteurs like Metzger and Brass, before then moving into action movie territory for a while. Lots of great international entries in here, and as the disc comes to a close we get to check out some vintage sci-fi trailers just for good measure.
Video/Audio/Extras:
Drive-In Delirium: '60s And '70s Savagery arrives on a 50GB Blu-ray disc and not surprisingly, the aspect ratio changes depending on the aspect ratio of the respective trailer that's playing. While there's some light DNR here and there, for the most part this is a pretty solid presentation. The trailers were clearly in very nice shape, they're all much cleaner looking than you'd expect if you've watched other trailer compilations that have hit the market over the years, and color reproduction looks spot on as well. There are no issues with compression artifacts or edge enhancement and detail and clarity are pretty good here. No complains, this is a nice presentation.
Audio chores are handled by an English language Dolby Digital Mono track, there are no subtitles or closed captioning options provided. Despite the absence of a lossless track, the audio here is more or less problem free. The levels are well balanced and there aren't any serious problems with any hiss or distortion.
Extras include a still gallery, a promo spot for the feature, menus and chapter selection.
The Final Word:
Drive-In Delirium: '60s And '70s Savagery is one of those discs that has something for everyone! Sure, trailer compilation junkies will have seen some of the more common inclusions here before but there's enough new or at least rarer content on the disc to make this worth plunking down for. Add to that the fact that the presentation quality is very good and this disc scores high marks all around.
