    The Movies:

The platinum princess of porn was a fan favorite in the golden age of smut, and for good reason. She had an insatiable appetite for sex and had the looks to match. She was always energetic and enthusiastic on screen and had a genuine charisma about her that made her stand out from the pack a bit. Video X Pix owns the rights two a few of Seka's better films, two of which are bundled together in this package appropriately titled The Seka Double Feature. Here's a look:

    INSIDE SEKA (1981)

Another in the seemingly endless line of 'Inside' films (such as Deep Inside Annie Sprinkle, Inside Jennifer Welles, All About Gloria Leonard, etc.) Inside Seka follows the same sort of formula in that it tries to pass itself off as a legitimate documentary. Co-directed by Seka and her at-the-time real life husband, Ken Yontz, (although Joe Sarno reputedly served as uncredited and unofficial director on this one) it takes the viewer on a trip through Seka's sexy lifestyle.

Shot in and around Manhattan in the early 1980s, the film is bookended by scenes of Seka and her man in bed together. Ken's going down on her and enjoying himself and she's dressed to the nines and looking just fine. As they're going about their dirty deeds, Seka recounts some of her exploits for Ken, which involve her trysts with other men, other women, various combinations of the two, and a trip to the long gone but legendary swinger's club, Plato's Retreat (recently the subject of its own documentary exposes, American Swing - see it, if you haven't!), with Ken in tow. The scene shot inside Plato's isn't as well lit as the other scenes and it tends to be on the dark side but it does give us a look inside the notorious locale and so it has some historical significance in that regard.

On top of that, the film also features another infamous shot of Ron Jeremy giving himself head (he also does this in Damiano's Consenting Adults). The scene in question features Seka at work, fooling around with a few guys. Ron comes in and wants a piece and so she tells him to go suck his own dick, and he willingly obliges. Ron doesn't finish himself off on camera, thank God for small mercies, but that notorious talent he's fairly infamous for is here in plain view (Ron has seemed a bit reluctant to talk about this skill of his in recent years).

Seka's excellent in this film. She looks great and her performances in each and every scene are some of her best. She was definitely in her prime when this movie was made and it's not hard at all to remember why she was such a huge deal in the industry at the time as you watch her do her thing in this film. She's got a remarkable sexual energy about her and she takes on all comers without any fear whatsoever. The movie also attempts to convince us that we're getting a legitimate glimpse into her personal life with her husband. The text before the end of the film lets us know that everything we just watched was either a real experience of hers or a reenactment of a real experience she had had previously. It's obviously impossible to say how legitimate that claim is, having not had anything to do with Seka and Ken's relationship, but it adds a bit of mystique to the picture and it's fun to believe that Seka was out there boning and groaning for fun and profit both on and off camera. Merle Michaels, Ashley Moore, Ron Hudd, George Payne and R. Bolla all appear in the film as well and the theme song needs to be hard to be believed.

CAREFUL HE MAY BE WATCHING (1987)

Directed by Richard Pacheco, who supposedly co-wrote the script with Seka herself, Careful, He May Be Watching is an interesting enough late eighties feature with a decent cast and an enjoyable, if really goofy, plot.

The film follows Seka as she plays a double role. During the evenings, she's a happily married woman named Jane Smith who is a dutiful housewife to her husband, Bill, played by Mike Horner. When he's off at work during the day, however, she turns into a porno movie star who calls herself Molly Flame - one of the most willing and able starlets to ever get down for the camera. What Jane/Molly doesn't immediately realize is that Bill has a secret of his own - he's trying to get down with a foxy stewardess named, get this, Miss Cummings (Shanna McCullough).

Of course, eventually everyone gets into bed with everyone else and it ends on a happy note, but there are moments of tension in the picture that prove Horner and, yes, Seka, were better actors than some of us ever gave them credit for. McCullough is also good in her supporting role, and the original MILF, Kay Parker, shows up in a brief supporting role in a rather goofy piece of creative wardrobe, and the film has enough seriously steamy carnal action to keep the fairly thin plot from falling apart particularly when Kay and Seka wind up together. Yowza!

The movie is also surprisingly well shot. Not that a lot of 35mm smut wasn't, but this film has a very nice, soft and at times almost romantic look to it. Alex de Renzy is credited as director of photography and his attention to detail and framing definitely pays off. The fairly famous scene where Seka disrobes at the poolside and gets into a hot tub, solo, to let her mind wander is a perfect example of putting the right performer in the right setting and just letting the camera capture the beauty of it all. The lush locations don't look quite as lush inside as they do outside, but since this film was made in an era where a lot of dirty movies were starting to be made fast and cheap with camcorders, we can let this slide without a hassle.

The production values add a lot here, helping to play the whole thing off like some sort of eighties era day time soap opera, albeit one that contains hardcore penetration shots and three ways - the kind they should make more of! On top of that, it's interesting to see Seka take on the 'double role' here, looking fairly different once she dons the wig and becomes her sexier and more flamboyant side. It's in keeping with the industries tendency to show that sex is always a good thing, to completely ignore repercussions of infidelity, and to play fast and loose with morality - but hey, in the context of a fantasy by adults for adults, what more could you ask for? We don't always want realism in our smut, even if the melodrama can sometimes be an interesting touch as it is here.

Seka made better films (the other film in this set is a prime example) but Careful, He May Be Watching is interesting, well made, and plenty steamy. As such, it's certainly worth checking out, particularly for her still loyal legion of fans.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

The 1.33.1 fullframe transfers haven't been re-mastered and appear to have been taken from older tape sources but they are at least quite watchable even if these films deserves better - Inside Seka in particular. There aren't any compression artifacts to complain about but detail is obviously only going to look as good as the source material will allow for, so don't expect anything on par with Video-X-Pix's recent re-masterings or Platinum Elite Collection releases. Colors are slightly faded and a bit off but the images are generally reasonably clean. A Video-X-Pix bug appears quite regularly in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.

The Dolby Digital Mono soundtracks in this set are about on par with the video quality in that they're serviceable but definitely could have sounded better. Dialogue is always understandable if a bit hollow and some background hiss creeps into the mix here and there. Levels are at least properly balanced and while these won't set your world on fire, you can follow the movies easily enough.

On the Inside Seka disc, aside from a menu and scene selection, Video-X-Pix has supplied a trailer for In The Pink - and that's it. The trailer for the feature itself is conspicuously absent. That said, the trailer for Inside Seka is included on the Careful, He May Be Watching DVD (though the trailer for that one is missing) along with a few other extras.

Seka herself shows up in a pair of interviews (10:26) in which she talks about the good old days of the burgeoning American porno movie scene, what it was like working with a few of her more famous co-stars, and how she feels about her career in hindsight. Seka also appears in a 2006 Seka Home Movie (6:21) which is a few minutes of an older, circa 2006, Seka giving head, getting boned, and then having her beaver shaved. There's also a Seka Scene Commentary (2:20) in which she talks about the scene from the movie where she shows up near the pool, disrobes and fantasizes. She doesn't get into too much detail, the clip is just too short for that, but she does talk about the state of her nipples at the time and how it's hot to see a cock pressed against a shower curtain.

Rounding out the extras on the second disc are a still gallery featuring some images of Seka in action, menus (featuring the awesome Elvis style Seka song!) and chapter stops. Inside the keepcase is a big, thick Video-X-Pix catalogue featuring DVDs, one sheets, brief bios for many of the principal players of the early NYC industry and more.

    The Final Word:

If you already own the single disc releases of these two films, this collection offers nothing new outside of the cover art but if you're a Seka fan, these two films are in the upper echelon of her filmography and are absolutely worth owning. At some point, Inside Seka will probably get remastered but until then, this double feature isn't a bad way to go so long as you're not expecting perfect A/V quality.
