Gabriel and Diego are, once again, getting chewed out by the captain. She's none too pleased that after working the case for a few days, the brothers don't really have much to show for it - least of all the missing skull. If they don't get with it and quick, she's going to replace them. Diego knows that Gabriel would be fine with it if they got canned, he could go back to his wrestling career - but Diego? He needs this job. Later that night in their father's apartment, Diego drinks some whiskey and thinks back to the time they spent with their father.

Elsewhere, Gabriel meets Iliana Santos at the museum where she lets him reexamine the scene of the crime for a few seconds before knocking him out. While this is going on, Diego starts rummaging through their father's old files where he finds documentation explaining the history of an Aztec curse related to the missing skull in question.

Gabriel wakes up when a bucket of water is thrown on his face to find himself in a wrestling ring surrounded by Calvera and his men. To his surprise, Iliana is there too, holding the missing skull - at which point she explains to poor, naí¯ve Gabriel how and why she stole it for Calvera. Of course, Calvera and his small army of skeletons underestimate Gabriel's prowess in the ring. Just as it looks like it's going to get out of hand when Calvera reaches for his tommy gun, Diego shows up to even the score. When a firefight breaks out and blood is spilt, the skull usurps one of Calvera's men to turn it into a spirit warrior Aztec king… ready for battle, demanding blood and tribute!

The first Blood Brother's storyline comes to an end in this fourth issue, but of course, the door is left wide open for a follow up that will hopefully come sooner rather than later. This was a really fun mix of horror, humor, action and mystery. The pulp influence runs strong in the book, but that's not a bad thing - it never feels kitschy or ham-fisted at all. It's just a fun read. Fabian Rangel Jr.'s story ties things up nicely without closing the door to a sequel, working Mexican mysticism into the story with equal amounts of film noir style and a decent amount of character development to ensure that it all matters in the end. Javier Caba's artwork has been great since the first issue and that hasn't changed with the fourth. Lots of great panel layouts, some very cool character and monster design work, an obvious love for the legacy of the luchadores, great use of color and just a genuinely cool style.

This run was a lot of fun - just good, simple fun. Bring on the next chapter!
