42nd Street Pete's Hippy Hooker Triple Feature
    Released by: After Hours Cinema
    Released on: September 12th, 2017.
    Director: Jim Harn
Cast: Al Moore, Billi Best, Nancy Martin
    Year: 1974/1975/1975

    The Movie:

42nd Street Pete and After Hours Cinema offer up a triple feature of vintage seventies smut films “now available for the first time to home entertainment.” Note that cover girl Roberta Pedon doesn't actually appear in any of the movies on this set.

    The Hippy Hooker:

The cast list for this one includes Carl Ross, Olga Davis, Tim Bale and Ane Task and the director is credit as Jim Harn. As the feature's fifty-seven minutes unspools, we start in a bedroom where a blonde dude named Alan wakes up after having a crazy dream. He tells his pretty blonde girlfriend about it - he was on his way to Laurel Canyon where he meets a hippy girl (noticeably older than he) who he gave a ride to. They smoke some weed and it turns out this chick is a hooker who wants $25.00 for a screw. He's not happy and he won't let her out of the car, then they head to his friend Irma's place. Irma is a foxy black chick who encourages the hooker to get naked and shower. When this happens, over what sounds like Gordon Lightfoot playing in the background, we notice she has a weird tattoo on her thigh. Irma likes what she sees and the girls have sex in the tub, inevitably the blonde guy joins in.

From there, the blonde guy mistreats the hooker, getting verbally abusive with her and shoving her around. Cut back to the bedroom from the opening, Alan calls Irma and tells her about the dream while his blonde lady friend goes down on him. After they finish screwing they head over to Irma's place where an orgy is going on. Alan and his lady disrobe and join in and then a girl with a lot of pimples on her heiny gets it up the butt to the soothing sounds of Both Sides Now by Judy Collins! Then the movie just sort of ends.

There's really no story here, but at just under an hour it's passable entertainment. The bulk of the movie is taken up by the orgy scene - it's basically half the movie, so if group gropes are your bag, this'll float your boat. There's not much to it otherwise. Some of the dialogue is amusing in its stiltedness and bonus points for using that Judy Collins song over an anal scene. The guy who plays the lead looks a lot like John Keith in a blonde wig. This one has actually been available on DVD-R through Something Weird Video.

    Nattie's Pleasure Palace:

Misspelled as Mattie's Pleasure Palace on the menu, this low budget hour long feature, which is set in the 1930's, starts off with some wonky handmade credits before sending us into a house where we meet a man named John who talks to his naked lady Kathleen about the raise he's going to get at the station tomorrow which will give them enough money to get her out of this place. They celebrate by having sex. Later Kathleen is upset - she wants to go to Hollywood and he wants something else, what that is, well, it's not so clear because the audio on this is pretty rough. Two of her fellow comfort women console her until a client arrives - a chubby guy named Mr. Honeyman who sports a beard and likes cigars and who just so happens to be the landlord - at which point we see him screw one of the hookers that isn't Kathleen but Nattie, the owner of the brothel. She ties him to a chair and takes care of him.

Later, John returns and complains to Nattie about how Kathleen always wants to go to Hollywood to try and make it big. John calls Bill over at Charlie's Poolroom and arranges to have a delivery made to Nattie's place. He heads back there to apologize to Kathleen at which point they dance a bit and then have sex again. After that they head into the bathroom where a working girl named Paula is having a bath. Kathleen comes in and John splits while the two girls have an intimate talk. Meanwhile, Mr. Honeyman grooms his son to take over the business - but before he can do that, the kid needs to get laid. Junior takes on a busty dark haired lady while pops goes for a three-way with two gals - the end.

Well, this one doesn't actually really resolve the story about what happened with Kathleen and John, instead it segues into a story about Honeyman and his son, which just ends with some sex and… that's it! It's amusing enough, the performances are kind of fun and the old house that is pretty much the only location used in the film works in the period setting, as do the costumes. The sex is reasonably well shot and the movie doesn't overstay its welcome. There are no cast or crew credits provided on the print used for this transfer.

    The Girls From Wam-Bam:

Credited as The Wam-Bam Girls on the menu, this fifty-six minute fuck film credits Sue Forlit, Kay Miller, Al Dobs, Greg Man, Ty Colt, Sam Pompi and Steve Watts among its cast members but lists no director. When it opens, a girl is giving a guy head in a car while her girlfriend waits outside and encourages her to hurry up - they've got things to do! With that out of the way the guy hands the girls his keys and they take off.

It turns out these girls are collection agents. Their next stop is at the home of a scuzzy looking guy who is delinquent on some payments for his chairs. When they show up, he's naked and pointing a gun at them. They get naked and have a three way in front of a giant pile of books while I Love How You Love Me plays in the background. With that done, it's on to the next job where they need to repo a truck. They head into an old farmhouse where a guy is having a nap. They wake him up with some head and head inside for a three-way on a big red chair. They finish up and then some guy named Jim walks in on them, then some other guy, and the three-way becomes a four-way. Jim has got a snake tattoo on his arm and likes black socks. From there, they head over to another house - the owners are out of town but they see the handyman (John Keith in a blonde wig again? And what's with that insanely awful Irish accent?) poking about. They talk to him about handing over the keys to his motorcycle, but he's got a different idea. He urges them to head into the attic of the garage for a good time, away from his old lady, at which point they all get naked and go at it (completely with what was probably some unexpected bleeding on the part of one of the ladies at the end there - ouch!).

This one is more or less wall to wall sex but it does at least have a decent sense of humor about it - the girls are good at their repo woman jobs because they're able to use their sex appeal to dupe their male targets out of giving up a fight. Some of the comedy is reasonably effective and the cinematography is okay, if never outstanding. There are at least multiple locations used here and the sex scenes are reasonably engaging and enthusiastic without ever going too far over the top.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Each of the three movies is presented in anamorphic 1.78.1 widescreen and transferred from film prints. They haven't been fully restored so expect a fair bit of print damage and plenty of visible scratches but that doesn't really detract from the experience much. Colors are faded and black levels all over the place but if the elements are in rough shape, at least the disc is fairly well authored and not plagued by compression artifacts or edge enhancement problems. It'd be nice if After Hours started using progressive transfers though, and on top of that the image here is clearly cropped from 1.33.1, which results in heads being chopped off now and then and other 'aesthetic' problems.

The audio is on par with the video, in that it's rough but serviceable considering the origins of the films and the materials available to work with. Each of the three English language Dolby Digital Mono tracks has some hiss and some audible cracking in spots but most fans of this material won't mind so much.

Extras? Not much here, but we do get a quick intro to the disc from Pete that runs five minutes and allows him to talk up each of the features, on the disc and his own experiences with hookers back in the seventies in his own inimitable way, complete with some bong hits to set the mood.

    The Final Word:

42nd Street Pete's Hippy Hooker Triple Feature offers up three obscure XXX oddities from the first half of the seventies in watchable enough condition, cropping notwithstanding. The movies themselves? Hardly essential classics but if you have a soft spot for seventies porn made fast and cheap, this'll scratch that itch.
