    The Movie:

Edwin Brown's 1986 Essex production Naughty Girls Need Love Too is centered on an apartment complex Marina Del Ray, a singles community that is essentially a fancy area of Los Angeles - where the sun always shines. The effect is sensual, we're told. Here was basically meet the different tenants and learn of their sexual activities. There's not much of a story, to be honest, but there's enough humor and steamy bumping and grinding on display, thanks to a pretty stellar cast, to make it worthwhile for fans of mid-eighties ladies.

First we meet Walter Finsec (Richard Pacheco), a guy who was pretty nerdy in high school but who now holds six patents in computers. He's a new arrival and he wants to learn how to pick up girls. We see him practice, awkwardly, with a blow up doll. Then there's Herb (John Leslie), the handyman that can fix anything. When we meet him he's off to fix a leaky faucet for Honey (Honey Wilder), the social director and the film's narrator. When Herb arrives, Honey is in bed with Faye (Mona Page). It's not long before that turns into something more than your typical plumbing call.

Walter lusts after Loni (Rachel Ashley), a would be actress who is roommates with Jane (Hyapatia Lee), a sexy but inhibited librarian - they live above Professor Barry Kern (Jamie Gillis), who offers female students plenty of opportunity to earn extra credit. Above Walter lives Skip Sims (Randy West) who once nailed eighteen girls in one day. Walter doesn't know that Loni would jump at the chance to be with him, and after she's taken advantage of by a producer (Ron Jeremy), well, he might just get his chance to be with her if he plays his cards right. Before that, however, Skip nails two girls at the same time (Lyn Richards and Lynn Francis) - after which he talks to Walter about some of the keys to his success with the ladies, even giving him a shot with the two girls after he's had his way with them. Elsewhere, Skip wants to see what he can make happen with Jane, who is far more of a minx in the sack than he could have ever imagined.

Aside from the fact that the movie has an inordinate amount of brown colored lingerie (is there a worse color than brown for lingerie?) this one does what it does quite well. It's not deep nor really all that original but it is entertaining enough and frequently pretty funny. The sex scenes are all quite well done. Highlights include Gillis coaching Penelope Jones and Tina Marie through a fairly intense lesbian session on the couch in his office, and the scene where West finally manages to get Lee to agree to do the deed with him. Lee's always a great performer and she's in fine form here, even if her nails look dangerously long! And of course, when Pacheco inevitably gets to be with the lovely Ms. Ashley there's some heat - we all knew it was going to happen, so that's really not much of a spoiler but as far as on screen sex goes, these two are clearly having a good time.

Production values are strong. Most of the action takes place in apartments that could be anywhere, the location almost doesn't matter when things are happening indoors, but the exteriors show off some nice California scenery. The cinematography and lighting is of good quality and there's a decent score, and some original pop contributions on the soundtrack as well. Great theme song too (and no, it's not the Samantha Fox song of the same name - it didn't come out until 1988).

    Video/Audio/Extras:

Naughty Girls Need Love Too arrives on DVD in a 1.85.1 fullframe transfer taken from a new 2k scan of the original 35mm negative. The film looks quite good, showing very little in the way of print damage but retaining a nice filmic look. Great colors, good depth and texture, strong black levels - no complaints really. The natural amount of film grain is handled well and there are no obvious compression artifacts or edge enhancement issues to note.

The film gets the Dolby Digital Mono treatment. Clarity is just fine and balance is good. There are no problems with any hiss or distortion. Dialogue is clean, crisp and clear. There are no alternate language options or subtitles provided.

Aside from menus and chapter selection, the disc includes the film's original theatrical trailer.

    The Final Word:

Naughty Girls Need Love Too isn't deep or all that original but it is fun and well made. You couldn't ask for a better cast and all who appear in front of the camera do fine work here. The disc is light on extras, but the presentation is up to Vinegar Syndrome's typically high standards. If you're into glossy eighties smut, you won't want to miss this one.
