January 2011 New York NY - Promising 'Monsters and Mayhem...40 Million Miles from Earth', director Chance Shirley (Hide and Creep) delivers that and more with Interplanetary, an outstanding science-fiction film DVD Verdict calls “a good time†and “Office Space in Outer Spaceâ€.
Shot on Super 16mm film outside of Birmingham, Alabama, Interplanetary follows the employees of the Interplanetary Corporation as they carry out the mundane and stultifying tasks associated with employment on Mars. The problem with space travel, as Chance so believably portrays it, is the boredom - boredom with petty managers, boredom with routine tasks and - eventually - even boredom with sex. That is, until a Martian fossil is discovered and the subtle growing sense of dread so effectively established suddenly turns into calamity and bloodshed.
Featuring solid performances from an experienced cast, stellar retro-futuristic set design, astonishingly good practical FX and an inventive and witty script that is “part Alien, part Office Space and all good†(HorrorTalk.com), Interplanetary is a heady concoction that is “ENTIRELY TOO GOOD TO MISS†(Screenhead.com) and an astounding sophomore effort from director Shirley and company. The not-rated DVD is priced at $19.98, and comes with a frank and informative commentary by the director and producers and a Shock-O-Rama trailer vault.
Synopsis:
Nine men and women, employees of Interplanetary Corporation, live and work on Mars. Their days aren't particularly interesting, much less exciting, until they are assaulted by a murderous band of strangers and a seemingly unstoppable alien creature. Do these attacks have anything to do with the Martian fossil recently uncovered by one of the employees? Will the rapidly increasing body count adversely affect Interplanetary's stock price? And can anyone survive long enough to fill out the inevitable paperwork?
