Summer Camp Girls - Movie Review:
Directed by Gary Graver (as Robert McCallum) in 1983, Summer Camp Girls doesn't really have much to do with summer camps at all, but if you can get into early eighties smut with a good sense of humor and an enthusiastic and attractive cast, then you'll enjoy it regardless.
The story revolves around Camp Quim, which is, yes, a summer camp run by a matronly and stern woman named Olga (Honey Wilder, who doesn't actually have any intercourse in the film). She and her two main camp counselors, Marcy (Janey Robbins) and Greg (Paul Thomas) run the place, and specialize in attempting to get the bratty offspring of wealthy parents set on the straight and narrow. Hanging around the place are a delinquent type named J.D. (Herschel Savage) and his cute gal-pal Carla (Tara Aire), who spend a lot of time with their trashy biker friend Animal (Antonio Crabbe).
As to those aforementioned bratty types? Meet Veronica (Kimblery Carson), Angela Cortese (the late, great Shauna Grant), Suzie (Danielle) and Tammy (Joanna Storm), as well as a character played by Brooke Fields. They're a horny group of hotties who almost immediately upon arrival at Camp Quim get out from under Olga's iron grip and start fucking around, literally, with pretty much anyone they come into contact with. Veronica and Angela wind up hiding out at a nearby bar, where Veronica starts a fight between a bunch of guys so she can figure out - and mount - the toughest guy there. Kimberly splits when this happens, while Fields meets up with a horny fisherman (Eric Edwards) who she gets to know quiet intimately. Suzie and Tammy and get stuck in the rain and decide to take shelter in a barn where they have rad lesbian sex.
When Angela's old man decides to make a visit to the camp to make sure everything is on the up and up, Greg has to find the girls and bring them back before the old man arrives. He finds Suzie and Tammy first, who prove to be quite good at making sure he doesn't get them into too much trouble. Things get a little weird when J.D. and Animal take an interest in some of the girls, but we won't spoil how the last chunk of the film plays out.
Summer Camp Girls is very light on plot but it's a really fun watch. There's enough story here to string the nicely photographed sex scenes together and keeps viewers interested in finding out how the breezy plot wraps up. The locations for the film work really well and the movie must have had a bit of a budget behind it as the production values are stronger than your average adult film of the era. The score is pretty solid and overall this just works.
Of course, the cast obviously plays a huge part in making this as good as it is. There aren't really any weak links here in that regard. The performers are all attractive and varied enough in appearance and style that the movie offers something for everyone in that regard. They perform with enthusiasm and some creativity at times, always seeming to enjoy themselves, a quality that simply adds to the film's considerable goofy charm.
Summer Camp Girls - Blu-ray Review:
Summer Camp Girls comes to region free Blu-ray “newly scanned & restored in 2k from its 35mm negative†framed at 1.85.1 widescreen on a 25GB disc, with the feature taking up 24.4GBs of space. Like most of the studio's restorations, the transfer here looks excellent. The picture has great color reproduction as well as strong depth and detail. Compression artifacts aren't a problem and there are no issues with noise reduction or edge enhancement. Natural film grain is noticeable throughout but there's very little actual print damage here at all, the picture is nice and clean in that regard. It looks really good.
The only audio option is handled by a 24-bit DTS-HD 2.0 track. Optional subtitles are offered in English only and a lossy Dolby Digital 2.0 track, also in English, is also included on the disc. Audio quality is fine, with the dialogue always easy to follow and understand and the levels properly balanced throughout. There are no problems with any hiss or distortion to note. It all sounds just fine.
Extras are limited to a theatrical trailer for the feature, menus and chapter selection options.
Summer Camp Girls - The Final Word:
Summer Camp Girls is a fun and breezy fuck film. The story isn't deep, but it's entertaining enough to keep things going, while the top notch cast all bring their A-game to the proceedings. The Peekarama Blu-ray release is light on extras but it does give the feature a very nice presentation. Recommended to vintage smut enthusiasts!
