    The Movi
    e:

Impulse Pictures' Classic Latin Erotica Collection is alive and well with this, their third DVD release, a three part anthology film entitled, quite bluntly, Porno, created by three separate directors. The first segment, As Gazelas, was directed by Luiz Castellini. It follows two young ladies who are supposedly in the eighth grade but obviously look to be considerably older than that. The one girl, Mia (Maristela Moreno), keeps being held back as she's got a thing for deflowering her fellow students and finds that this age range is just right for her particular kink. When her friend and classmate, Maria Helena (Patricia Scalvi), comes over to study one night she decides they should take a break and hit some books of a different kind, they being the men's magazines Mia's father keeps stashed conveniently around the house. One thing leads to another, and before you know it, Mia has struck again and added another notch to her belt.

The second story is O Prazer da Virtude follows the exploits of a young man named Romano (David Cardoso - who also directed this segment and produced the film), a wealthy socialite about town who has a very keen interest in a woman named Ilona (Matilde Mastrangi). Ilona is just as interested in Romano, and is all too keen on hopping into bed with him, but he explains to her that unlike most men he gets off on waiting and so he makes her do just that. They play some kinky games together and spy on each other as they shower and dress, but Ilona feels that they're just wasting time - until Romano asks that she dress up in a nun's habit, at which point, all bets are off.

The final story, O Gafanhoto, was directed by John Doo, the same man who helmed The Chick's Ability. This segment follows a young man named Marcos (Arthur Roveder) who is involved with a woman named Diana (Zelia Diniz). Though she's blind, she's somehow managed to keep him with her, almost making him her hostage where she forces him to do whatever she wants. Somehow, though Diana is blind, she's able to see what is reflected in the mirrors around the house so Marcos, wanting to escape, covers them up. This doesn't work, however, and she keeps on him and wants more and more from him until he decides to push things far enough that she'll reject him…. by diddling her goodies with a grasshopper. This doesn't exactly go as Marcos had planned, however.

Simultaneously smoking hot and mind numbingly odd, Porno is a pretty interesting trilogy of taboo sex, lush fantasy, and curvy Brazilian ladies all set to a mix of instrumental versions of seventies classic rock hits from the likes of Pink Floyd and Elton John. Despite the fact that the sexual content gets pretty graphic, there's a definite artistry to the cinematography that makes Porno more than just, well, porno, and ensures that the various lovely ladies are always perfectly shot and framed for the camera. Those not already intrigued by foreign sleaze and sex might not want to start with this one, as it's maybe not the most accessible sex film ever made, but it's certainly got a sense of creativity and adventure that goes a long way towards making it stand out from the pack.

    Video/Audio/Extras:

The 1.33.1 fullframe transfer looks to present the film in its original aspect ratio and overall the image is pretty solid. There's some minor print damage and a bit of color fading here and there but aside from that, little to complain about. There are no obvious compression artifacts or edge enhancement problems and the image is flagged for progressive scan. Skin tones, of which there are plenty, look nice and lifelike and for an older, obscure skin flick, Porno looks just fine.

The film is debuts on DVD with its original Portuguese 2.0 Mono mix intact, with optional subtitles provided in English. As far as older Mono mixes go, this one sounds just like you'd expect it to - range is limited and the audio is at times a little bit flat but there aren't any audible problems to complain about. Dialogue sounds clear, the levels are well balanced, and the score sounds nifty. The subs are easy to read and free of any noticeable typos.

The DVD itself is barebones save for a very basic menu and chapter selection option and a hard copy insert with the chapter listing printed on it.

    The Final Word:

Thoroughly entertaining, completely off the wall, and steamy enough to hold your attention, Porno may not get the deluxe treatment with this release but it's certainly a decent enough offering that those who have appreciated Impulse's Pornochanchada line thus far would do well to check it out. Sexy, funny, and periodically bizarre, it's got loads of cult appeal and more hot chicks than you can shake a stick at.
