Picked up Screenbound's dvd release of WOMEN BEHIND BARS as it was alleged it had the French track with subs (something that was missing from the Blue underground dvd). I was sceptical but indeed it does. It also is surprisingly no worse nor better that the transfer used by BU. It really could do with a Blu-ray release, but the French track is a real bonus.

From Fu Manchu to Vampyros Lesbos: Javier Marías on his uncle, the B-movie film-maker

The was originally written for The Telegraph but apparently you have to register to read stuff on their site? Whatever the case may be, someone in a FB group pasted it to the like above.

I am assuming this fully uncut demonic is the same release as the redemption films release in America and not the real fully uncut version with the xxx material?

A question for those who've seen them: Are any of Franco's post Snakewoman efforts worth checking out? I've never had the chance or seen the available in R1 so far and the completest in me wants to see them, if only once.

No X but all sync and audio issues that have affected previous releases have been fixed.

    Extras include

    English version
Exorcising Demons - Interview with Steve Thrower
Jess' Demons - Interview with Jess Franco
    4x Trailers
    Out-take reel
There are English sub titles and the English version.
The english version is 88 mins long, whilst the French version is 118 min long

Did Franco shoot the X material or are they inserts?
Jess did not shoot any porn until 1973 ( from memory )...if he did not shoot it it's not part of the film.

So the dvd has the French language track with subs?. I have the X-rated collectors edition blu which has the best PQ (much better than Redemptions) but still suffers from having the English dub instead of the French track.

As far as Sexorcismes goes, I'm pretty sure Franco shot the xxx scenes, but they are not just random inserts. The film plays out a little differently than the others and so is a valid alternate version of the film . I'm pretty sure Lina wears a wig in one scene so its possible that this version was created later.

Paula-Paula is the one that would test even the most faithful. Its a totally narrative free experiment with all the image tinkering and distorting that featured prominently in the likes of Dr. Wong's Virtual Hell and Vampire Blues to its most extreme. Its biggest strength is the brilliant Friedrich Gulda soundtrack which Franco actually conceived the whole project around.

Al Pereira vs. the Alligator Ladies might not convince anyone that didn't like the other digital films but any completest should certainly see it. In a lot of ways its Franco painting a cinematic self-portrait, one that's bound to completely fly over the head of anyone that's not a devoted Francophile given how much of it is so entrenched in Franco's personal mythology. While not as visually abstract as a lot of the later films with only a few instances of post-production image distortion, it benefits greatly from being lensed in digital HD with eye popping lighting, making it the best looking of all Franco's later digital productions. And the titular Alligator Ladies, Irene Verdú, Carmen Montes and Paula Davis deserve praise. Montes was of course one of Franco's greatest discoveries during his digital era who was so great in Snakewoman and par for the course is great in Alligator Ladies but its newcomer Irene Verdú who stands out the most with an uninhibited attitude and incredible screen presence. Too bad she didn't get the chance to do more with Jess. Really an important movie.
