I caught the sequel last weekend. Classic Herman Yau for the most part. Really enjoyed that it harkened back to the glory days of HK action cinema and there is a really fantastic car chase sequence that takes place in the MTR. The stuntmen ducking the cars barreling down the escalators was absolutely top rate! The story itself is pretty pedestrian with Andy Lau putting in the best work among the main players. The storyline involving Karena Lam was just filler and unnecessary but fortunately, it doesn't detract much from the action. There is plenty of that with a lot of explosive gunplay (a bit excessive and repetitive at times) and onscreen violence. The finale is an ode to classic John Woo as well. Was it better than Benny Chan's original? No but it was a worthy effort from Yau and definitely better than a lot of other sequels.

Actually the best part of the movie was during the trailers as they showed the upcoming FAST & FURIOUS: HOBBS & SHAW - the audience (pretty packed house) openly snickered and booed the trailer! It was nice to see the crowd reacting to shit Haolewood crap and realizing what an inferior product they are putting out for a quick money grab.
