Mahakaal (Bollywood Nightmare On Elm Street)

Watched this for the first time in a few years while on vacation last week and forgot how much ridiculous fun it is.

The Indian Freddy guy is pretty great...

....but the real star of the show is Canteen, the most bizarre comic relief type character you'll see in ages.

The actor, credited as Johnny Lever, plays Canteen... and the hotel manager too - same guy, basically just sporting a Hitler moustache for some reason.

It looks like this guy is still pretty active in Indian cinema.

I don't think I've seen any of his other movies though - but it hardly matters, because I can't see how he would top his work here.

I'm not sure what's up with this thing, but it's awesome.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS MOVIE IS AWESOME.

I think the Mondo Macabro DVD is out of print, which is a shame.

Yeah, you need to get on that pronto, Sukeban. This is a masterpiece in its own right.

Yeah, all those Bollywood Horror sets are awesome. I haven't seen this in a few years, either. I should revisit it as well.

Looked'em up on Amazon the other day. Ouch. Long OOP and going for some pretty big money.

I wonder if MM will repress these?

Oh yeah, tons of money. Although once in a while you can catch a seller listing it at a somewhat under-inflated price. Still haven't seen it, actually. Don't think I can hang with all those musical numbers. If they ever do repress it, and I can catch it cheap, I might take the chance.

The musical numbers used to annoy me, then I got used to them, now I look forward to them.

I hope that I can get there one day, because they stop all those movies cold for me these days! Even those soundtrack comps of "Bollywood Funk" don't do it for me, apart from some choice cuts. Maybe if I watch enough, it'll all click.

been a few years since I last watched them but I think the statue thing is kind of a "ramsay trademark". in a way most of them end in a cavern/temple and there's always some statue standing in the background ...

the dracula rip off has a huge bat (of course).
