Aliens: Defiance - New Ongoing Series From Dark Horse To Start In 2016

    Press release!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: NEW YORK, NY —As announced on the Dark Horse: CLASSIFIED! panel at New York Comic Con, writer Brian Wood (The Massive, Rebels) and artist Tristan Jones (Mad Max: Fury Road, TMNT) will take on the xenomorphs just in time to celebrate the anniversary of Aliens with a new ongoing series—Aliens: Defiance!

“Alien was groundbreaking when it first debuted, and has only grown in relevance and pop culture legend since,” remarked Wood. “Thirty-seven years is an impressive amount of time for any entertainment property to thrive, much less still top mainstream headlines and fuel speculation like it does. It’s an honor to be invited to add to that legend.”

In space, no one can hear you scream . . . Aliens: Defiance follows struggling Colonial Marine rookie Zula Hendricks as she goes AWOL to protect Earth from an unknown alien species.

“Few films are as timelessly terrifying and the fact that it continues to grip audiences and affect them beyond any of its successors and imitators (of which there are plenty) is the strongest testament to how truly transcendent everything that went into, and came out of, Alien is,” added Jones. “Being asked to be a part of something so defining, and so instrumental to the creative development of not just me, but so many, many others, is a lifelong dream come true.”

Aliens: Defiance #1 (of 12) is in stores April 27, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop!

I really like that art. 12 issue Aliens mini-series don't tend to end well though.

I don't like that it involves the Engineer/Space Jockey again but god damn is that some amazing cover art.

Yeah obviously the proof will be in the first issue but from the previews that are coming out and the comments I'm seeing from Tristan on twitter, they're taking their time and really trying to do this one right, treating it as more than just another licensed book.

I read the Fire and Stone series and thought it was just okay. The Prometheus Fire and Stone had a good idea or two but that was it. They have a lot going against them because 12 issue Aliens mini-series don't tend to be warmly received. See: Deadliest of the Species and Colonial Marines.

Yeah, Colonial Marines kinda sucked. I don't think I read Deadliest of the Species but I did enjoy most of the Fire And Stone storylines. This one looks less gimmicky though, a little more 'pure' if that makes sense.

Deadliest of the Species is one of the most insane Alien/Predator comics ever created. It was written by Chris Claremont and the art (I forget the name of the artist) is actually really good. The first issue is genuinely good but then it goes off the rails and is about androids, female predators, talking Alien Queens, jungles and shit. It's like Claremont dropped acid and watched Blade Runner, Aliens and Predator at the same time. Only it sucks.
