Most anticipated release of 2016, can't wait to see Criterion finally give this the Blu release it deserves.

I figured they had LW&C but, when they announced Lady Snowblood, I feared they'd hold LW&C back for another year. (now watch it be the 1990s LW&C: Final Conflict and not the classic 70s films )

That would give everyone here a hernia on sight.

Fantastic news, I hope the transfers will look good *

    * I'll refrain from further comments until I get back to Japan to my own (laptop) screen, and until I've seen more caps from other sources, but these don't look entirely right to me...

I want to say this about Criterion's Lady Snowblood transfers, both are from 35 mm low-contrast prints, which gives you "the look of the projection print but little flexibility in adjusting it if a scene is too dark or contrasty". Don't know why Toho didn't give Criterion access to a raw scan of the negatives, but their Lady Snowblood Blu-ray is most likely closer to how these were seen in theaters than any previous home video release.

Well, I saw Lady Snowblood on 35mm a few months ago, but like I said, I should refrain from further comments until I see those caps with my own screen.

new print or old print? (a print would of course have better/less harsh contrast than these, but there is nothing that could be done about it.)

Here are the Criterion Forum review/screen caps of Lady Snowblood and Lady Snowblood: Love Song of Vengeance
