So Wrightson went in for brain surgery this week, his wife posted this on FB:

"Hi everyone -- quick Bernie update: he did very well in surgery! I was not allowed to see him until late in the day, but he was fairly lucid, and has no observable post-operative issues. He will remain in Intensive Care overnight (standard) and I'll report again once he's recovered a bit more. Thank you for all of your kind words! -- Liz"

aw man, that's so sad to read. I mean, great he came through the surgery; but sad he is going through such an awful ordeal.

I never realized until recently how my childhood idols are now what I would have perceived back then as old men and women, dying off and getting ill. I never really thought about that until now, having reached an age when its starting to happen a lot. I've loved Wrightson's stuff since I was a wee lad and when I actually used to attempt to draw, I would often copy some of his monsters in an attempt to learn how to do it right. Mine of course sucked. but I did call his house when I was like 12 or something. Talked to his wife and she said he was in his workshop creating something big she couldn't tell me about. I felt like I was an insider, even though I had no clue what she was talking about.

I didn't see the episode in question but Greg Nicotero made a 'Wrightson Zombie' for The Walking Dead.

    That's kind of neat.
