I really like mono when it's appropriate as well. And as far as Ramones go, I LOVE Leave Home, it's a favourite of mine. But I remember reading an interview about the mixing of the first album, and somebody was saying, they mixed the drums, vocals, and bass, and then slowly brought Johnny 's guitar up in the other channel until they had sonic nirvana.

For me, I don't see the point in remixing a classic in a way that it never existed, although The Beatles seem to have made a mint off it. At any rate, like remakes, it's not destroying the original.

The early Ramones albums actually have some really solid production going for them. Listening to the demo versions in the new box really shows how their sound got punched up on these first batch of tunes.

So I got my hands on the first CD last night and gave it a spin.
I've only listened to the stereo remixes so far.

I'm so impressed with what I heard I just ordered the box set 5 minutes ago.
    I noticed things that I haven't before.
    It seemed so balanced.
The background vocals really stood out this time.
To be fair I did buy some better equipment last year and I gotta pull out all my other version at some point to be sure. (I even have the High Res download)

I didn't realize before that I Don't Want To Walk Around With You has the doubled guitar mix I love that's been used from LEAVE HOME and on.

However, there was no added 1-2-3-4's that BG suggested.
At least on the original stereo recordings (first CD)
It was just used for the last song.

What's funny is this is from Morrissey (of THE SMITHS) when he was a critic years before his band.
Now Rhino (I believe) actually put out an album of Morrissey's favorite RAMONES songs.
I thought I gotta hear Morrissey cover the RAMONES.
Nope it's just a collection of actual RAMONES songs by an "expert" ???
    LOL

Oh yeah, Morrissey Curates The Ramones, if you ever needed proof that Record Store Day exclusives are absolute bullshit.

    For you Tolch:

Also, the guitarist is playing it wrong.

I saw it. Lameness abounds. Shitty cover by a shitty band.

Ramones covers are hard, especially for musicans.
