She did say when she drove him to work that morning, "Are you having another one of your episodes again?" But still.

We don't really know his backstory though. Maybe he's bipolar or has some other mental health issue.

Is it weird how little of this is taking place in Twin Peaks? Part of the raison d'être of the original was the soap opera element. You're really missing that entirely this time around. It really hasn't done any more with the characters in Twin Peaks than to say that they are still all there. All working the same jobs apparently too which seems far fetched even in Twin Peaks land. Suspension of disbelief is a funny thing. I can handle a backwards talking magical dwarf but the same two people working a diner 25 years later? It's a stretch... Really keen for Cooper to snap out of it too. Dopey Dale is fun if frequently tedious and Evil Dale is an unexpected treat but the show really needs Cooper.

Bracing myself for disappointment. 5th episode failed to move any story forward, just lots and lots of filler.
This episode failed to engage me on the level the first 4 did.

Not thrilled to see the drug dealing scenario is unchanged. Dom's point is well taken, Twin Peaks is caught in a time warp.
Or Lynch is out of touch with the current drug culture.

Enjoyed what evil Coop did with his tricky fast dialing on the phone, but wtf was it supposed to mean.
If he has magical powers, why sit in jail?

Laura Dern on the new series:

And making the case for Cooper's arrested development (not saying I'm in complete agreement here but it's interesting enough):

Well, I disagree that it's "very funny", but yeah, good point...audiences now want stuff fast and furious, and Lynch is not going to do that for them.

Not a ton of answers in last night's episode but it feels like we're getting there at least.

It's moving like an inch worm, with a ways to go.
No Super Coop last night, way, way, WAY too much of Stupid Coop.
There is no plot or entertainment value in the Stupid Coop thing, he better wake up next week. It's a time killer ( filler ).
The shakedown thugs stand in awe of his wife's meltdown???
    Strange new murderous dwarf?
