March 13, 2018 Butler, NJ – In 2007, after a nearly 40-year-run screening adult movies, Vancouver’s Venus Theatre closed its doors. The infamous pink porno palace that had inspired Michael Turner’s 1999 BC Book Prize-winning novel, The Pornographer’s Poem was gone, and hundreds of cans of adult films began to gather dust.

Now, ten years later, the Venus is back in this collector’s edition series, Venus Theatre Presents. Curated from 16mm prints discovered in the Venus archives by porn archaeologist Dimitrios Otis, these collections of classic cinema from porn’s golden age will be available to film historians and casual consumers alike in “themed” multi-film DVD collections offering historical context, new interviews and rare images from the Venus itself.

Volume 1 in this stand-out series – The Abduction of Lorelei Triple Feature - includes Otis’ essay on the history of the Venus, exploring not only the changes to the venue but also to the laws governing the public performance of adult films in British Columbia. Also included is an examination of Abduction of Lorelei, featuring an interview with its star, Serena, contributed by fringe culture writer Heather Drain.

Venus Theatre Presents Vol 1: The Abduction of Lorelei Triple Feature – available 04/06/2018
Feature Films: Abduction of Lorelei, South of the Border and Turn Me Around

Abduction of Lorelei (1977) – adult superstar Serena stars as Lorelei, a beautiful American heiress kidnapped and held for a 1-million-dollar ransom in this shocking crime-drama from director Richard Rank. Initially motivated by money, Lorelei’s captors refuse to release her once the ransom is paid, forcing her to submit to a series of degrading sexual acts. A surprising plot twist and Rank’s gritty, realist approach elevate this late 70s adult roughie.

South of the Border (1974) – Sharon Thorpe and Jaimie Gillis star in this south-of-the-border rape-and-revenge flick about a trio of bandits who get more than they bargained for when they kidnap three party girls en route to Mexico. Easy Rider-inspired editing and a kinky climax make this a must-see for fans of brutal adult cinema.

Turn Me ‘Round (1975) – when a kinky serial cheater’s games go a bit too far, a swinging couple and his wife plot revenge! Directed by Bob Kirke, starring Val Anderson and John Seeman.

This is out now. Curious about the quality of the films, transfer-wise. I know I've seen Abduction... but I can't remember anything about it. 3 films for $20 so seems like it'd be worth it unless the prints were beat to hell & content is dull...

I've got it, a review is in the works if you don't mind waiting a few days.

Very interested as well. I suspect the prints aren't going to be in great shape but there seems to be enough here to be of interest.

Yeah, they're not in great shape, the After Hours stuff isn't really restored at all.

I really wish AHC and all their operating names would stop needlessly butchering their releases on purpose. They charge a premium price for a defective product.

I'm not sure that they made the cuts themselves - the transfer was taken from an old Canadian theatrical print, it was likely chopped up before they got their hands on it.

That doesn't change the fact that it's missing a LOT of footage though!

Just what we need another porno missing 20 minutes. Why even bother releasing it at all
