Punisher: War Zone & The Thomas Jane Versions Coming To 4k UHD

This is getting a UHD release from Lionsgate in Sept.

It's my favorite Punisher film, sorry Dolph. As much as I enjoyed the show, I wish we'd been given a sequel to this. Ray Stevenson is a beast in the lead and Lexi Alexander's direction is spot on. She clearly 'got it' when it came to translating what made the comic work into a movie.

This is also coming out. I doubt as many people care.

War Zone is pretty fun but the Netflix show eclipses it.

Yeah, obviously they had a lot more time to tell their story but War Zone gets bonus points for getting there first in terms of presenting the character properly.

    And damn is it violent.

I didn't realize it then but it is accurate to the character. The MAX series' version. But still, fun schlock picture. Love the scene where he kills the parkour guy with the rocket launcher.

I really enjoyed WAR ZONE and was glad I saw it on the big screen. Ray Stevenson is excellent as Castle, and I enjoyed Dominic West's turn as Jigsaw too. The film contained some great, meaty action. (That moment in which The Punisher punches through a bad guy's skull stands out for me.) The visual design of the film was very good also, but the photography was sometimes a little rough around the edges, with some strange compositions that looked as if they had been cropped/zoomed in postproduction in a few instances.

Certainly, it was a big step up from the Thomas Jane film, which by itself was good and had some excellently staged action sequences but got the character all wrong.

The Lundgren film is still my favourite, however, despite things like the absence of the skull on his shirt (which irked me at the time of the film's original release but seem like small potatoes now). It reminds me of reading the Steven Grant comic books back in the mid/late 1980s.

I still haven't seen the Netflix series.

You really need to get on that.

I'm going to, Alex It's on my 'to watch' list and I plan to start watching it as soon as I've finished watching the first season of WESTWORLD.

The first five minutes or so really nailed the character.

Sadly, it totally goes to shit after he finishes the cartel guys off.
