    Dark Tourist

Anyone else check this out on Netflix? I'm 4 episodes in and find it interesting enough, even if it never goes as in-depth as it could. I think I'd prefer hour long episodes dedicated to each location rather than each episode cramming in 3-4 locations. Still, it's interesting stuff and it gives us the chance to see a lot of bizarre sights that we'd probably never see where it not for the magic of television.

It's kind of like a less offensive TV version of a mondo movie.

I have it on my watchlist but, yeah, the whole brevity thing has put me off getting round to watching more of it. I have a decent attention span so it all seems a bit superficial. Perhaps they thought if they lingered on anything for more than ten minutes people would start playing with their phones.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

It's a good concept but I think the execution is lacking. The host is good but it's hard not to be thinking of Louis Theroux when you're with him. None of it really feels that transgressive either. It's all wierdly commercialised. Which I guess is the point. But is that interesting? Taking the trails used by illegal immigrants? Interesting. Doing so as part of a tour group complete with staged hostage situations? Wierd, really wierrd, but interesting? More cringe inducing for me.

In the episode about 'The Stans' they visit a hospital full of kids who were affected by radiation. That part surprised me, that they'd actually show what they showed, but aside from that, yeah, weirdly commercialized sounds about right. I don't dislike it, I find it interesting enough to put on when I don't know what else to watch, but it doesn't hit the potential it has.

Didn't expect to see as much corpse action in the Indonesia episode as I did on a Netflix show, but there you go.

I still think this is the TV equivalent of a semi-tame Mondo movie.
