Thread: Kino Releasing Lost Highway!

    This makes me think of Travis Bickle buying sweets in the porn cinema.

    I saw Lost Highway at the cinema. Turned up late and could only get a seat in the front row (this was at the Prince Charles in London, any other place and it would have been empty), that only served to intensify the head-fuck. Great to see it with the right audience, the kind that reacted warmly when Richard Prior appeared.
    I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.

    I saw LOST HIGHWAY at a local independent cinema that tends to be populated mostly by women of a certain age who look like they should be part of a knitting circle. Anytime anything vaguely 'rude' (eg, nudity or a sex scene) appeared on screen, they would 'tut' quite loudly. I saw it with a then-girlfriend who would quietly groan when the Rammstein tracks appeared. (She wasn't a fan.) Was an excellent experience on the big screen but I'd echo the comments about it being a very dark (photographically speaking, rather than thematically) presentation.

    I also saw MULHOLLAND DR. at the same cinema with a similar audience makeup, and I remember during the scene in which Naomi Watts is masturbating, a loud chorus of 'tuts' ran through the audience. Suddenly realising that I was the only young male in the auditorium, I squirmed in my seat and looked around me, only to discover half of the elderly patrons were looking my way in a deeply disapproving manner, as if I was somehow complicit in the explicit nature of the scene.

    That also reminds me of the time I saw CRASH at the cinema, and there was a chap who I'm sure was tossing himself off during half of the movie, going by some of the noises he was making.

    Crikey, I'd love to have films like these back on the big screen rather than all that Marvel shite.

    That might have been what I uttered during Ms Watts' masturbation scene - which attracted the attention of the elderly cinemagoers.

    {I am joking, of course.}
