    Takashi Miike's First Love

Takashi Miike (Audition) seems to never take a break from making movies, and we’re damn sure thankful for that. With over 100 directing credits already listed on his IMDb resume, Miike is back this year with First Love, a brand new action-thriller premiering at Cannes!

“Set over one night in Tokyo, the film will follow Leo, a young boxer down on his luck as he meets his ‘first love’ Monica, a call girl and an addict but still an innocent.”

Actually he took a pretty long break from making movies, instead serving as showrunner and occasional episode director of three TV series for girls aged 2-6.

‘First Love’: Takashi Miike Delivers A Classic Shaggy Noir-Tinged Yakuza Film [Cannes Review]

The drugs function as a plot device with no regard to their real-world impact. We are told that Monica needs a fix to keep hallucinations at bay; she’s haunted throughout the night by the specter of her father, who appears naked except for his eyeglasses and white briefs.

This could be the first new Japanese movie I see in theatre since Re-Born and the Roman Porno reboots... when Toei releases it in fucking 2020!
