I love how P.T. Anderson utilized the SAW II tagline for one of his best films:

Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Saw 2 goes downhill pretty fast. Hated most of the characters and the ones I didn't hate died first. Ugly looking movie. Edited by a monkey with a straight razor, seems like this movie could give people seizures. The plot is.... pretty much the same as the first one, just with more (annoying) characters. The reveal at the end carries no weight because it is telegraphed fairly early on and not very believable, even by the not so believable standards of the Saw movies. The 'twist' at the end that tied the location into the first one also meant nothing and the throwback to the Lawrence Gordon character from part 1 also felt unnecessary.

In short, Saw 2 isn't very good.

Saw 6 and 7 were pretty fun.

The ending for Phenomena was so good.

I’d far rather watch Phenomena, or even the butchered Creepers version, than watch any Saw movie.

The third one is my favourite.

We'll get to that this week. Even though I'm expecting to hate most of what is to come, I'm determined to get through the set (excluding Jigsaw, which I have no intention of watching ever again because I fucking hated it).

So we watched Part III over the weekend and it's definitely better than part II. At least it tried to do something different. I still hated the look of the movie and the editing style, but the story was more engaging. I'm not sure Shawnee Smith is the world's greatest actress and the whole thing is preposterous with a lot of very big logic gaps, but if nothing else it was marginally entertaining.
