Anyone else check out the Second Sight release yet? The 4k presentation is gorgeous, such a huge improvement over the past DVD and Blu-ray editions. We watched the theatrical cut last night and I was pretty impressed, noticed a lot of details that I didn't pick up on the other I dunno how many times I've seen the movie.

I cancelled my order, I'll wait for a standard edition. I decided that I didn't need to buy this again at £75. Caps look great though, but I'm in danger of overdosing on this so I need a bit of time.
I'm bitter, I'm twisted, James Joyce is fucking my sister.
Yep, it's an enormous step up. For things not noticed before, I guess I never noticed the snowflakes during the opening scene outside of the apartment building before.
Yep, I watched it yesterday on the projector. An incredible experience. For the first time that I remember, I was able to read some of the notes in the petrol station that Stephen lands the helicopter at.
I was hesitant, given the price and the fact that I didn't need the additional tat. (I already have the novelisation and the music.) However, given that it's a favourite film of mine, I made the decision to move some funds around, and saved some money by feeding my kids nothing more than crisps for a month and selling the family home (we now live in a tent). Definitely worth it!
But seriously, it's an excellent release. I'm very pleased with it.

'All explaining in movies can be thrown out, I think': Elmore Leonard
Despite declaring earlier in this thread that I wasn't going to pick up this set, I did end up buying the blu-ray version in the end. I can't really explain why, just got to the end of the month, had some leftover spending money (the upside of a year of basically no travel or socialising), so... what the hell.
Watched the theatrical cut weekend-before-last, and can't really add much to what others have said - looked and sounded fantastic. My previous go-to copy was an early '00s DVD, so a huge upgrade - I noticed so much new detail. Looking forward to trying out the Argento cut, which I've never seen before, in a few weeks, and then we'll probably leave the extended version for a nice treat at some point in the future when we feel like watching 'Dawn..' again.
Has anyone else cracked open the book of essays which comes with the set by the way? It's... hard work, to be honest. Naming no names, but there are some fairly bad/pretentious bits of film writing in there, along with a few good ones, and some which touch on interesting ideas but could have really done with a bit of editing/redrafting to get their ducks in line. I've taken a break from reading it for the moment, as it was all kind of blurring into one and generally making me feel like a college tutor marking a pile of student assignments or something.![]()
