American Hardcore 2.0. I don't know that there aren't 'other sides' to the story here, but it's a pretty fascinating read with a great collection of pictures and anecdotes and quotes from the people who were there. The chapter on Black Flag is worth the cost alone.

The Mole People - a really interesting and at times depressing account of the homeless people who live in the subway and train tunnels under Manhattan. Fascinating stuff, but not always feel good material.

Ditto. Really interesting book. Popoff is a first-rate writer but I have always had my disagreements with his take on a lot of stuff. He is probably the premier writer out there now in the Heavy Metal world though.

It's just a really fun read. He knows he's catering to the hardcore music nerds and he's running with it, no shame whatsoever. I dig it so far. Lots of weird facts most people don't care about and a different take on the Sabbath mythos.

Just ignore whatever I said about The Hammer Story book previously. I actually sat up last night and read the whole book. It's pretty damn awesome for a "coffee table" book. The sheer wealth of information, facts and trivia the guys pack into the thing is astounding. It seemed a bit "light weight" from initial appearances, but it's not. If you ever wanted a book that plots the course of history of studio, alongside all of their major films and their place in that history, then it's the book for you. But I say that as a Hammer fan, so obvious bias applies.

Shadowrise by Tad Williams - and am surprised how similar this story is to at least the televised version of the Game of Thrones story...
It's not going to suck itself...
