    • NEW Audio Commentary by Director Nicolas Gessner
    • Radio Spot
    • Theatrical Trailer

Color 93 Min 1.66:1 Not Rated
Screen legends Charles Bronson (Rider on the Rain, Mr. Majestyk) and Anthony Perkins (Psycho, Five Miles to Midnight) co-star in this suspenseful thriller directed by Nicolas Gessner (The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane). Laurence Jeffries (Perkins) is a neurosurgeon dedicated to his research and neglectful of his beautiful wife Francis (Jill Ireland, Breakheart Pass), who leaves him for another man. The vindictive doctor plots a diabolical scheme—conditioning an amnesiac patient (Bronson) into believing that Francis is his own wife—so that he can take revenge by proxy, with a perfect alibi. Bronson gives one of his best and most convincing performances in this dark tale of deceit and hardened emotions. Beautifully shot by legendary DP Pierre Lhomme (Cyrano de Bergerac, Camille Claudel).

Warner Archive somewhat quietly put Red Sun out on DVD (but not Blu-ray).

Never heard of the Perkins film but I'm a big fan of Little Girl Down the Lane so I will be checking that out.

In regard to Death Wish II, III & IV, which releases are uncut?

The Shout! release of DW2 is uncut, but the best release is arguably the Australian disc from Umbrella, which includes the unrated cut, Greek VHS cut and 'R' rated cut - and it's also a double bill with DW3 - which is presented fully uncut. (That said, I think the US release of DW3 is uncut too.)

All releases of DW4 are, AFAIK, uncut. Again, the Australian release from Umbrella is arguably the way to go, as this is also a double-bill and includes DW5.

DW3 has never been released uncut. It was cut for an 'R' by the MPAA and the cut footage has never surfaced.
Why would anybody watch a scum show like Videodrome? Why did you watch it, Max?

Wasn't the 'X' rating originally given to DW3 reduced to an 'R' classication after an appeal, with no cuts required, Matt? My memory is a bit fuzzy about this.

It does say that in the trivia section on imdb, but I always thought it was cut for 'R'. I'd have to watch it again, but I seem to remember a few jarring edits as well.

EDIT: I found this from Paul Talbot's book:

Like Death Wish II, the third entry was too brutal for the MPAA, and the film was slapped with an X rating. But this time Winner was aware of the rating and fought it. "[The MPAA] didn't want to give it an R rating [and] asked for a number of cuts," the director remembers. "But in the States you have an appeals board consisting of cinema owners and producers. I went before the appeals board and the appeals board overthrew the censor. The censor put his point of view and I put my point of view and my point of view won the day, so we did not have to make any cuts for America. Nothing was changed."
