    Ennio Morricone live 2015

I had the amazing pleasure of getting to see the maestro himself conducting an 86 piece orchestra with 75 singers on Sunday evening, first night of his current tour. I knew it was going to be great beforehand but was not prepared for how stunning and moving the whole experience was. It left me and everyone else around me awestruck!

Plenty for the cult film fan to enjoy, here is the setlist from the programme I bought. (Nice programme btw, it has a full Morricone filmography among other things).

Of course, I'd say go to see him if you get a chance, european tour underway, and I believe there is some U.S dates in the pipeline.

Yeah, it really was. A top three musical experience of all time for me.

It almost felt surreal at times. As I was queueing to get in at door-opening time there was a massive screen above the crowd which was cycling through images and ad stuff for the event, at one point it was showing a quote from Morricone where he was talking about Elio Petri. It was in Dutch, and I don't speak dutch so i've no idea what it said but just to see Petri's name lit-up like that was weird. This was at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam which is a 17,000 seater, Iron Maiden, etc play there. Mental.

That sounds like a wonderful concert, Fray. I love "Chi Mai", Lisa Gastoni did a killer vocal on that tune.

I had a little thrill the other night, saw AMERICAN SNIPER and Morricone's "The Funeral" from THE RETURN OF RINGO is used at the end of the film. Really unexpected and it was perfect in the context of the film.
I don't go to church. Kneeling bags my nylons.
