Five Reasons to Love Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare

All pretty good points if you ask me. I'd also like to add that I've always been a bit miffed at the complaints over the years about how Freddy's Dead is too jokey. True, it is, but anyone who had been paying attention to the previous 3 films can attest that the one liners and wise cracks were becoming more and more frequent and the dream/death scenes more elaborate and over the top so the overall tone of Freddy's Dead should have come as no surprise.

Plus its not like its without its serious moments. Those scenes with Freddy before he was burned with his daughter are supremely eerie as is when Tracy see's Freddy in the guise of her perv dad. Of course that too becomes fodder for a one liner ("Kung fu this, bitch!") but nonetheless the set up was creepy.

As over the top as it gets in parts, it all ends up working because of how imaginative it is (the video game sequence in particular) which in reality can be said of all the Elm Street sequels. Originality goes a long way which is why I think Freddy's Dead holds up fairly well. Even some of the dated 90's computer effects have an endearing quality to them.

I still think Freddy's Dead is the worst of the entire series. But it still has great moments. I just wish that the powers that be picked a direction and stuck with it. Because the 1st act is genuinely funny "Now I'm playing with power!" but then it starts to take it self semi-seriously again and focus on Freddy's origin. From the 2nd act onwards is when it just completely falls apart.

Listen to 45 minutes of nightmarish tales from Freddy Krueger’s 1-900 number

All thanks to a 14 year old with a Darth Vader speakerphone apparently.

I agree with Alex that FREDDY'S DEAD is the worst, but I've noticed that part 2 has become quite overrated. I watched it recently and it's awful. I have no idea why they would abandon Craven's original concept for a stupid, incoherent possession angle. The rules of the film aren't clear, and Freddy running around in the real world just doesn't work. The only thing I enjoyed is Clu Gulager's funny performance as the befuddled dad:
