    The Official TINTO BRASS Thread...

When I first saw a Tinto Brass film I was so into the darker side of softcore sex films that his films were like a breath of fresh air. I think the first one I saw (besides Caligula and Salon Kitty) was The Key and it was just such a free and happy approach to the topic it's almost like I fell in love. Soon after I saw Miranda which is great and All Ladies Do It (the one I had the av of that you loved, Todd, and my favorite for a long time) and I loved all three. I bought a bunch more but I have this weird habit of not watching new movies of directors/stars I love because I don't want to run out. So I had them but didn't watch them for years. I eventually ended up watching Cheeky! and Frivolous Lola (which is my current favorite) and loved them too. Even P.S. Tinto Brass was good. Private and Mon Amour I saw over the past few years and they were good but not his best in my opinion.

I'd love to hear anyone else's favorites...

Oh my God that avatar was awesome. And you know, I still haven't seen any of his movies. Someone was supposed to help me out, but alas, no help has arrived.

Cult Epics is putting some of his stuff out on Blu this year.

You can't spell Brass without ass. The man has a gift.

I was in a defacto relationship with a woman for a few who had a Tinto Brass ass, and was of Eye-tie decent so his work had some sort of connection to my heart....

My favourite of his is still ALL LADIES DO IT then THE KEY and CHEEKY. FALLO! is his most sexually potent but isn't as 'well rounded' a movie as LADIES imho. It took me a while to 'get' Brass, as I was expecting more pron action, considering my introduction to Euro-sleaze was actually via a Joe D'Amato Spaghetti Western porn. But all up, Brass is probably the classiest of all the Euro-sex directors, his films a like low-rent Fellini or Bertolucci even, but way more fun. They also remind me of Robert Crumb comics, but if Crumb was more romantic and not as angry.

I can see that connection. Never made it myself before but it's there. Crumb's stuff seems a bit mysoginist at times, where Brass is very obviously deeply in love with the female form.

Ah, so there is a thread.

There are better BD choices than Monamour.

Definitely, but I'd guess they're starting with this one since it's a more recent acquisition and probably has an existing HD master. I'd bet the other titles need to be remastered in HD before they can go Blu. Just a guess on my part, but if I were a betting man...

Monamour wasn't bad. He wasn't really trying anything we haven't seen him do a million times before (and with more success than he had here) but it was at least entertaining and steamy enough.

Most of his films follow the same formula with the exceptions of Caligula and Salon Kitty. What makes them work is the believibilty and charm of the main actress. The chick in Monamour just didn't have it.
