Hunchback Of The Morgue and Horror Rises From The Tomb are tops, Werewolf Shadow and Mark Of The Wolfman too. And Panic Beats was rad.

I love Dr. Jekyll Vs. The Werewolf the most though, at least occasionally I do, I'm not good at ranking things. I think it's because it was the first of his movies that I saw.

Here were my impressions afterr seeing The Beast and the Magic Sword (1983) for the first time:




Waldemar Daninsky flees to Japan in search of the man that can cure his silver allergy. This is the 4th Paul Naschy film I've seen and I have no doubt I will consider it my favorite when I've exhausted his filmography. Seeing Naschy's Wolfman tear through dozens in a Japanese brothel and slaughter squads of samurai in the forest is a real treat. There are some nice sleazy moments like the topless ninja that takes a shuriken to the boob, as well. The "must see" scene is a showdown between the Wolfman and a Bengal Tiger. It's jaw-dropping how aggressively those two go at it. That stuntman was f&@%ing nuts. At times the plot does slow down but I enjoyed seeing Mac Daddy Daninsky weave his spell on yet another damsel.

I've yet to see a Naschy flick I really disliked...he has a pretty amazing track record, for me at least. Here's my particular favorites though, go-to goodness in a pinch:

Special mention for the lone spaghetti western Naschy appeared in, it's just a cameo, but fittingly, it's easily the most fantastic/supernatural of the entire genre; Death itself shows up at the end! FURY OF JOHNNY KID
