    Bayside Cemetery, Queens NY

Bayside Cemetery is a really old Jewish Cemetery in NYC - Queens specifically. It's in horrible shape. The tombs get broken into and robbed and the synagogue that was in charge of keeping it up abandoned it a long time ago.

    These were taken in 2010.

You can see a trailer for a documentary made about this place here. Some people have been trying to keep it up. Haven't been there since these were taken, maybe it's in better shape now. There was a legal case launched some time ago.

    Place is kinda creepy.

    Interesting! Thanks for sharing, Ian.

My local cemetery is almost literally just at the back of my house. I've taken hundreds of shots in there over the years. There are some lovely Gothic monuments.

Those are awesome shots, Paul! When I was in Bayside, well, I wasn't supposed to be, so it was kind of a commando point and shoot/auto focus run (litereally) through the brush trying not to get nabbed for, umm, being somewhere you're not supposed to be.

I'd love to go in and take my time in there, but it's not likely to happen. You got some great color in those shots though!

    Great shots here, thanks guys.

I've never understood cemetery vandalism. Especially grave robbing. I mean, I suppose you could get some valuable jewelry, etc, but it seems like a really good way to get the "other side" really pissed off at you.
