The fifth installment in Relapse?s exhaustive reissue campaign of DEATH?s immensely influential catalog is Leprosy, the band?s titanic second album. Originally released in 1988 Leprosy was a pioneering album, building upon the thrash sounds of Metallica and Slayer but adding a previously unheard level of raw extremity. These songs are the roots of an entire genre: death metal. While this was only the second record DEATH released, it immediately cemented them as heavy metal icons.

Leprosy is set for an April 29th release date in North America, April 28th in the UK/World, and April 25th in Benelux/Germany/Finland. The entire album, as well as the bonus material, has been painstakingly remastered by Alan Douches (Mastodon, Nile, etc) and will be reissued on 2xCD/Limited Edition 3xCD/LP/Picture Disc LP/Limited Edition 2xLP Boxset/Digtal. The Deluxe 2xCD contains 50 minutes of previously unheard and unreleased Leprosy demos and rehearsal material housed in an embossed o-card package with a 24 page booklet featuring unseen pictures of the band as well as brand new liner notes from Ian Christe (Sirius/XM) and Jeremy Wagner (Broken Hope). The LP features the remastered core album on wax together with a download card for all of the music included on the 2xCD. A remastered version of the death metal classic "Pull The Plug" can be heard via Soundcloud HERE and YouTube HERE.

In addition to the 2xCD reissue, a super limited 3xCD version will be available exclusively from www.relapse.com featuring everything included on 2xCD version + an exclusive 3rd CD featuring over 40 minutes of unreleased live material, housed in a deluxe embossed 8 panel digipak with a 24 page booklet, limited and numbered to 2000 copies. The entire tracklisting is available below.

Finally, a super limited, deluxe vinyl box set (limited to 500 copies) will be available exclusively from www.relapse.com containing: the remastered core Leprosy album on exclusive colored vinyl; a 2nd LP containing unreleased rehearsal material from the Leprosy sessions housed in an exclusive jacket with original flyer art on exclusive colored vinyl; an exact replication of the original Combat newspaper print LP insert, a Leprosy turntable slipmat, and a download card of all 3 discs. Pre-orders including an exclusive new line of official DEATH merch are available HERE. Digital pre-orders are available via Bandcamp HERE.

Press release for the Scream Bloody Gore reissue coming from Relapse soon.

Relapse Announces Deluxe Reissue of DEATH's Classic Debut Scream Bloody Gore

Presenting the first official DEATH bobblehead, a stunning recreation of Ed Repka's iconic Scream Bloody Gore album art!

DEATH's legendary 1987 debut Scream Bloody Gore is more than just an untouchable album - upon its release, it was positively genre-creating. Scream Bloody Gore founded the quintessential death metal sound, with more tormented riffs, screams, and leads than the world had ever imagined, and established Chuck Schuldiner's inimitable phrasing and songwriting style as the most singular voice in the burgeoning genre. Today, the album is viewed unanimously as one of the all-time most important cornerstones of death metal.

As the final chapter in Relapse's comprehensive DEATH reissue series, Scream Bloody Gore will now receive the deluxe reissue treatment on a wide variety of formats including 2CD, Limited Edition 3CD, LP, Deluxe 2xLP Boxset, and cassette versions. Like the preceding DEATH reissues, the deluxe reissue of Scream Bloody Gore has been meticulously remastered from the original tapes by Alan Douches (Death, Mastodon, Nile) and includes a plethora of bonus content, including previously unreleased recordings and rehearsal demos, super-expanded packaging, and brand-new extensive liner notes from former DEATH drummer / Autopsy founder Chris Reifert, Sepultura's Max Cavalera, and original Scream Bloody Gore producer Randy Burns.

Physical pre-orders are available now via Relapse.com at this location. Digital pre-orders can be found via DEATH's Bandcamp page here.

The very first official DEATH bobblehead is a stunning recreation of Ed Repka's iconic Scream Bloody Gore album art! Made exclusively for Relapse Records by AGGRONAUTIX, a company creating limited-edition metal, punk, and cult figures, these collectible, high-quality resin figurines stand 7" tall, are hand numbered 1 to 1,000, and come packaged in a custom windowed box.

    Info/Bio:

Over the course of more than a decade and seven increasingly accomplished albums, Chuck Schuldiner, the architect behind the ubiquitous DEATH, became a bona fide heavy metal icon. Now widely recognized as the father of death metal (if a single candidate must be chosen, his résumé is about as good as it gets), Schuldiner's singular drive and ruthless creative vision guaranteed that DEATH would ever represent the cutting edge of the style's development. Indeed, while the savagely raw aggression contained in DEATH's first three albums proved crucial to spearheading the first generation of death metal bands, the astounding musicianship and increasingly sophisticated songwriting found on their later-day efforts surely influenced even more groups to explore the limits of extreme metal's most progressive outposts. By all accounts a force to be reckoned with on-stage, DEATH also logged more frequent flier miles than perhaps any other band of their ilk, undertaking numerous far-reaching tours despite suffering from continuous and often acrimonious musician turnover within their ranks. Throughout this long journey and drastic evolutionary curve, Schuldiner was to be the only constant, the effective mastermind behind DEATH's continually groundbreaking career, and, as proven by his near-canonization at the time of his untimely passing, arguably unequalled in stature within one of rock's most uncompromising style.

I remember going to Renaissance Records in Killeen TX & buying the "Scream Bloody Gore" LP along with MRR's "No So Quiet on the Western Front" 2LP comp. when I was a teenager.

I had "Leprosy" on cassette & it's still a pretty damn good listen. The vocals during "Pull the Plug" are INTENSE*. I still own the orig. "S.B.G." LP. Seems like I interviewed a member of Death for an awful zine I did called 'Break Neck'.

*Just gave it a re-listen & the vocals aren't as intense as I remembered. Still good, though.

DEATH, the heavy metal institution founded, realized, and helmed by legendary guitarist Chuck Schuldiner, released the Individual Thought Patterns album (the follow-up to their watershed Human release) in 1993. Expectations were high following Human, but Schuldiner proved once again that he could rise to any occasion. Individual Thought Patterns further honed the forward-thinking and progressive direction birthed with Human, and included “The Philosopher”; arguably the best song to ever come from the world of extreme metal and to this date the most widely-recognized.

Remixed by DEATH mastering engineer Alan Douches (West West Side), remastered, repackaged and featuring tons of newly unearthed and previously unreleased demo and live tracks, this is the ultimate version of Individual Thought Patterns. Available again for the first time on vinyl in almost 10 years!

This is coming out on DVD via Relapse 7/5/18.

"Here comes DEATH's probing and pulsing rock doc, Death By Metal, pulling back the palm fronds of DEATH's origins in Altamonte Springs, Florida, and latching a narrative hook into the headstrong Chuck Schuldiner juggernaut for fifteen gratifying if sometimes frustrating years. As the baby steps become giant leaps, the stable of supporting players grows and continually shines in its own devious light. Excitement grows as Schuldiner, his band, and the world around him evolve, and the music grows ever-more outrageous and bombastic. DEATH's threat morphs from simple zombie attack to multi-headed mega-monster hellbent on absorbing entire planets. Then suddenly, Chuck is just gone, and the lights go out. The formula for movies about bands dictates that victory is seized from the jaws of mortality in the final act. This is where things get weird. Chuck Schuldiner perished during the moment of heavy metal's weakest ebb, and possibly the quietest moment of his own career. The drawling guitar demon in the kitty cat shirt will not rise again to tour county fairs, swap one-liners on late-night TV, and jam with Judas Priest at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. But this documentary itself joins reissues, partial reunion tours, and an international reawakening as part of a decade-long ascent for DEATH to its proper place of high dominion. As you read these words and watch this film, Chuck Schuldiner and DEATH return to glory, and the legend itself becomes an eternal encore."
