Is Twin Dragon Encounter The Greatest Canadian Movie Ever Made?

The answer to that question is yes. Twin Dragon Encounter IS the greatest Canadian movie ever made.

You should see it. Why? Because it's about these guys...

...Michael and Marty McNamara. These are real guys. In real life they still run this martial arts school in Toronto:

They get in their matching vans (each one has his own Twin Dragon branded van to drive) and grab their lady friends (one of whom, Tolch astutely observed when we watched this last week, looks like Dave Foley) and head from Toronto to an unnamed part of northern Ontario (Perry Sound according to the credits) for a little R&R. At first they stop at a dinner that looks like someone's back porch and get into an insult match with a guy who drives a Mack Truck. From there, they're mildly harassed by the members of the People's Private Army. These are some militant types (one of whom is Steve Goof from The Bunchofuckingoofs) who have some canoes, there's about 20 of them in total. It's a small army and they have no obvious case or reason for being. The Dragons saw some wood.

Once the Dragons and their ladies are safely drinking Export in their crummy cabin (which has Twin Dragon posters on the walls)...

...they decide to wander around for a bit and then hang out in a tree house after spotting a bear. But then the mildly annoying army guys show up and cause more trouble. Eventually the girls get kidnapped and the Dragons take off their shirts and kick everyone in the face in slow motion. Also they get some knives.

A guy named Billy Butt did the theme song (Fight For Your Right To Fight).

That cover makes it look like there might be boobs in this movie but that's really its only flaw - no boobs. There is what looks like it might have been intended to be a rape scene early in the film but it ends with the Dragons saving a dog.

ALSO... the Twin Dragons are real men who know the meaning of life. I forgot to mention that in my first post.

I first became aware of the McNamara Brothers from my friends at the Cult of Muscle podcast. They covered Twin Dragon Encounter on Episode 6: Twin Moustache Pandaemonium!

If you like Twin Dragon Encounter I highly recommend checking out the sequel, Dragon Hunt aka Dragon Kickboxers. It's a direct sequel and is just as good as the first one.

It's funny, I'd completely forgot about the Twin Dragons and their love of the real meaning of life, stubby beers, and cottages without running water or electricity. This was a fun trip down memory lane, and a reminder of how fighting in slow motion can guarantee good results.

Someone needs to put out a 'The Films Of Steve Goof' boxed set.

We should interview the McNamaras here at RSP. Hmmm.... we should probably interview Steve Goof too.
