Really disappointed in the Jackie Chan action flick, so we snuck into Er Cheng's THE WASTED TIMES & caught most it other than the first few minutes. A sprawling Chinese gangster epic spanning the dawn of the Battle of Shanghai to the eventual surrender of the Imperial Japanese army in the Philippines at the hands of the allied forces. Told in a non-linear flashback narrative with plenty of arthouse pretensions. It wasn't my cup of tea but I did enjoy Tadanobu Asano's nuanced performance and the soundtrack was spectacular. Unfortunately, the languid pacing and the continual use of flashbacks really made it chore to sit through.
