    The R!S!P! Z'Darchive - The Official Robert Z'Dar Thread

So over the last few months my obsession with the films of Robert Z'Dar has reached a bit of a fever pitch and last night I think I hit rock bottom.

In a drunken frenzy, a fool and his money are often soon parted but I think I went one step further when I ordered this.

Before you judge me, however, realize that this is a movie starring Robert Z'Dar and Coolio and that I bought it for $0.01. So you can see how I would have easily given into temptation.

It was finished in 1999 and released in 2005. Always a good sign, right?

At any rate, it's not here yet but in anticipation of its arrival I wanted to start an official Z'Dar thread because, well, we don't have one here and I think we need it.

Also about two weeks ago we had some company over and I made everyone watch Run Like Hell and not only that, I made them listen to it with the hidden commentary track turned on so that they could all bask in my motherfucking wit and wisdom. In hindsight that was probably pretty egotistical of me, but I do feel this track is a high point in my life and career.

So while it's true that most people are mainly familiar with Robert Z'Dar from the three Maniac Cop movies, there's a lot more to his filmography than just those pictures. It's time to step up and deal with it. Delve in. Z'Dar you ready to join me? HA!

My first Z'Dar sighting was in TANGO AND CASH, which I saw in the theatre. He had quite a run in the 80's, didn't he?

I probably own everything on dvd he's been in that's currently available. One of my favourite genre actors ever. There are some really good films he was in back in the 90's, at the height of direct to video films that are still MIA on dvd.

    my most wanted films are:

DRAGONFIGHT - 1990 - In the future, large corporations earn millions of dollars by staging gladiatorial fights to the death that are shown on worldwide television. One day, however, a fighter who is scheduled to hunt and kill an opponent in the Arizona desert decides he's had enough, and makes a run for it. His opponent is instructed to track him down and kill him.

The Big Sweat - 1991 - An ex-con, just released from jail, returns home only to become immediately embroiled in a robbery. A tenacious FBI agent hounds him every step of the way. This film contains 45 minutes of stock car crash and chase footage

Final Sanction - 1990 - Tensions between the USA and Russia erupt into full scale war, leading to a limited exchange of nuclear weapons. Forced by the U.N. to the negotiating table, diplomats between the two superpowers decide on an unusual way to end the conflict: each side will pick one man from their best unit and put them both in a 20-acre arena in a one-on-one fight to the death.

Young Rebels - 1992 - One man against the drug cartel

Shadow of the Dragon - 1992 - "The 'Mekong Dragon' is wrecking havoc in L.A. A psychopathic gang commander in a black hood", "he's executing enemies in a bizarre way. His shadow falls across the city like a blanket of terror. And now, his cold blooded emissaries are creating the worst crime wave ever!"

Fresh Kill - 1988- During the mid-80s and into the early 90s, City Lights Video doubled as a production company. With two grunts and a plop, they pushed out a number of homegrown features, not one of which is worth three cents in Hell. FRESH KILL, at least, has the small-beans appeal of featuring B character actor Robert Z'Dar. Here he plays the baddie(imagine that), massacring everyone at any place our hero and his leading lady have just left.

As an actor you can find him in big hollywood budget stuff like Mobsters and Tango and Cash, but he is not scared to do films of the most low-budget variety as well:

Apparently the director paid him 500 dollars for this role. I have yet to see it cause of the price of the dvd but the synposis sounds rather interesting:

Drawing from the tradition of the Twilight Zone, this cutting edge feature film has been touted as one of the most visually stunning and emotionally disturbing movies made to date, by the Hollywood Reporter.

Filmed in the desolate wasteland of the California desert, and its surrounding communities, Yin Yang Insane is a psychological thriller that follows a corporate gangster who, after making his biggest score, finds that he is pursued by a dark, shadowy figure attempting to effect revenge.

This film takes the viewer into the mind of a man as he slowly goes insane, based upon his guilt and regrets for causing the financial devastation of others.

"Visually stunning, morally corrupt," states the San Francisco Chronicle. "A must see."

A reviewer from the Chicago Sun Times says, "This character driven drama is reminiscent of the thrillers from the 1950s and 1960s, where you can't help but wonder where reality ends and fantasy begins."

That big mug of his always elevates any dreck he's in anyway.

    Also, this!

Holy shit. Anthony Michael Hall, Claudia Christian, Jerry Orbach and Z'DAR in a movie directed by Stan Winston?

"Gnorm is just an average Gnome. But he wants to impress the lady Gnomes by doing something heroic. So he steals the Gnome's magic stones to expose them to sunlight to recharge them. When he gets to the surface, (Gnome's live deep underground) he witnesses a murder, and the killer ends up with his stones. Detective Casey, who was working a sting operation with the murdered man, (another detective) is blamed for botching the sting, and causing the death. Wanting to catch the killer to clear his name, he teams up with Gnorm, who he accidentally discovers. He is going to need Samantha's help, but she thinks he is a nut. You see, no one else knows about Gnorm."

Lionsgate has the whole thing available to rent on youtube.

Doesn't look like it ever had a DVD release but it did come out on VHS.

A Gnome named Gnorm is another that needs a dvd release. Would love to get a good copy intsead of vhs quality rips. It was on youtube awhile ago and I downloaded it, really anything Z'dar related is the only thing I'm not opposed to downloading or finding torrents. Sometimes it's the only way to see it.
I do have a soft spot for Z'dar early 90's and any Z'dar fan should check out SOULTAKER, though I'm sure most people here are familiar at least with this title as it's been used in MST3K episodes.
